Described is a system for automated creation of various data storage environments for application testing. The system may provide an efficient mechanism for creating various computing environments employed by clients of a data protection and recovery service. For example, different clients may utilize different data storage infrastructure (e.g. servers, storage arrays, databases, etc.) on which common backup-related components are overlaid. The system may build different combinations of computing environments and perform application testing across such environments simultaneously (or in parallel) within a virtual environment. Accordingly, the system may verify the operational consistency of backup-related applications across a large sample of client computing environments in an efficient manner.

Automated creation of variable data storage environments for application testing

Described is a system for coordinating backup configurations for a data protection environment that implements multiple types of replication. The system may provide an efficient coordination tool that discovers the types of replication implemented by storage arrays within a data protection environment and then processes backup data according to the types of replication. For example, as part of a data protection policy, a backup facility may continuously create point-in-time copies (e.g. snapshots) of storage resources by leveraging consistency groups. Accordingly, the system may categorize such consistency groups based on the type of replication implemented by associated storage arrays. Based on the categorization, the system coordinate a backup process for all storage arrays associated with the backup facility without requiring specialized hardware.

Coordinating backup configurations for a data protection environment implementing multiple types of replication

Described is a system for managing point-in-time backups (or 'snapshots') of data that are stored as part of a primary storage. As part of a data protection service, a set of snapshots may be stored on the primary storage system for efficient and immediate recovery, and a set of corresponding recovery snapshots may be stored on a secondary storage system for recovery purposes. Accordingly, the system may provide the ability to leverage the efficient storage mechanisms of the primary storage, while still maintaining the data storage efficiency (e.g. costs) of the secondary storage. Moreover, the system may manage the snapshots stored on the primary and secondary storages independently. For example, the system may fully leverage the available capacity of storage pools within the primary storage by automatically purging certain snapshots from the primary storage while still maintaining the corresponding recovery snapshots on the secondary storage.

Efficiently managing point-in-time copies of data within a primary storage system

Described is a system for automating the testing of backup component upgrades within a data protection environment. More specifically, the system may automate the testing of various upgrade combinations of a backup application to verify the compatibility of the new version with various prior versions of the backup application. In addition, the system may also verify the operational consistency amongst variable client computing environments. To ensure interoperability between backup application versions, the system may simulate various potential interactions between versions that would potentially be implemented within various storage configurations by a client production environment. For example, the automation manager may automate certain backup related operations with previous versions of the backup application such as creating backup instances of data, and then verifying the newer version of the backup application may correctly restore such backup instances and perform other backup-related operations.

Automated testing of backup component upgrades within a data protection environment

A remote agent for providing backup services to applications includes a persistent storage and a backup manager. The persistent storage stores backup policies for the applications. The backup manager identifies an application of the applications for providing the backup services; generates an application backup template based on a backup policy of the backup policies for the application; sends the generated application backup template to a production host that hosts the application; and makes a determination that the backup policy has been triggered. In response to the determination, the backup manager initiates a native data extraction from the application using the application backup template to obtain a native data dump; stores the native data dump in backup storage; and indexes the stored native data dump as a backup.

System and method for orchestrated application protection

Performance analysis for test automation frameworks is described. A test is executed of an application. Performance indicators are logged during execution of the test, wherein the performance indicators include a first performance indicator. A correlation is identified between the first performance indicator and a second performance indicator recorded during the execution of the test or an execution of a previous test of the application. An output device outputs the correlation as a performance issue.

Method and system for performance analysis by test automation frameworks

Embodiments are directed to method of determining the reliability of a software program by correlating reliability with performance of the system through monitoring the entire system and it components. A component captures memory usage and CPU utilization of all components at regular interval and records failure of services by the system. An analyzer analyzes the events performed to determine which component failed to complete the action and record the failure against that component to enable identification of individual component reliability as well as the product as a whole.
