Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate power headroom management in a wireless communication system. As described herein, a predefined relationship between locations along a system frequency band and corresponding power backoff parameters is utilized to minimize spurious emissions outside the system frequency band and/or excessive interference by, for example, associating locations near one or more edges of the permitted frequency band with substantially high power backoff parameters. As further described herein, the predefined relationship can be known a priori to the base station and the mobile terminal.

Power headroom management in wireless communication systems

A method and a system for providing signaling in cellular telephone system providing broadcast services to fully integrate broadcast services with the services provided by the cellular telephone systems. The signaling method coordinate interaction between an access network and the subscriber station to allowing the subscriber station to decode the broadcast service, to receive paging messages while receiving the broadcast service, to properly transition between operation states, and other functions known to one of ordinary skill in the art.

Method and system for signaling in broadcast communication system

A method of providing communication services for a mobile station having a plurality of communication interfaces is disclosed. Each communication interface has an active power mode and an inactive power mode. In the method, a communication service level is assessed for an active first communication interface. A second communication interface is activated and a communication service level is assessed for the activated second communication interface. A comparison is performed of the communication service levels of the first and second communication interfaces. If the second communication interface can provide a greater communication service level, then the first communication interface is deactivated by changing the first communication interface from the active power mode to the inactive power mode, and a communication service is provided through the second communication interface. Otherwise, a communication service is continued through the first communication interface.

Method for power efficient activation of an inactive communication interface in a mobile station having multiple communication interfaces

A method of providing communication services for a mobile station having a plurality of communication interfaces is disclosed. Each communication interface has an active power mode and an inactive power mode. The power consumption of a communication interface in the active power mode is greater than in the inactive power mode. In the method, a first communication interface is activated based on power characteristics of the first communication interface with respect to the plurality of communication interfaces. A communication service level of the activated first communication interface is assessed for a first predetermined time period. The first communication interface is then deactivated. A second communication interface is activated based on power characteristics of the second communication interface with respect to the plurality of communication interfaces. A communication service level of the activated second communication interface is assessed for a second predetermined time period. The second communication interface is then deactivated.

Method for efficient assessment of communication service levels in a mobile station having multiple communication interfaces

Techniques for sending control information are described. In an aspect, information to send in a control message may be fragmented into multiple parts, with each part including information of a particular type. The multiple parts may be segregated into multiple categories such as dynamic, semi-static, and static. A full message containing all parts may be generated and sent at a first rate. A first partial message containing parts in the dynamic category may be generated and sent at a highest rate. A second partial message containing parts in the semi-static category may be generated and sent at a second rate that is slower than the highest rate. A third partial message containing parts in the static category may be generated and sent at a third rate that is slower than the second rate.

Method and apparatus for fragmenting a control message in wireless communication system

Systems and methods are provided in which an origination station broadcasts a broadcast program to at least one of a plurality of destination stations. A first destination station (or a first group of destination stations) receives a first registration period parameter from the origination station. The first registration period parameter specifies a first period during which the first destination station must register with the origination station. The first destination station may block any attempted registration request that occurs outside the first period. Alternatively, the origination station can deny any attempted registration request by the first destination station that occurs outside the first period. If the registration request from the first destination station is sent before the first period begins, then the destination station can periodically request registration until a request is sent within the first period.

Method and apparatus for broadcast application in a wireless communication system

Various method and apparatus provides for a method and apparatus for a communication system to efficiently use the traffic channel resources for communications of control data. A controller receiving a transmission indicator of a control message for transmission from a base station to a mobile station over a traffic channel. The controller selects a traffic channel dormant timer based on the transmission indicator. A network entity may send the transmission indicator to the base station. The transmission indicator of the control message is determined based on at least one of extent of communications and size of data of the control message between the mobile station and the base station. The controller sets up a traffic channel for transmission of the control message with the selected traffic channel dormant timer. The traffic channel is torn down after expiration of the selected traffic channel dormant timer.
