An exemplary method includes an application management system 1) detecting a request provided by a user to install an application on a user device, 2) identifying a plurality of privacy attributes of the application, 3) determining, based on the identified privacy attributes, a compliance level of the application with respect to a privacy profile associated with the user, the compliance level representing a degree to which the application complies with the privacy profile associated with the user, and 4) directing, prior to the installation of the application, the user device to present a graphic that represents the determined compliance level of the application. An approach for enabling a user to anonymously access customized service information from a plurality of providers is described. A secure estimation platform retrieves personal information associated with a user based on a first request from the user. The platform then anonymizes the personal information and generates a second request for the estimate for the service based on the anonymized personal information. The second request is then transmitted to one or more providers of the service.

Method and apparatus for anonymously acquiring service information

A network device implements resource admission policy management related to controlling the denial or grant of a delivery of a network service to a customer device. The network device receives a notification related to a change in network topology or network capacity of a network that delivers the network service. The network device identifies changes in the network topology or the network capacity based on the notification, and applies resource admission control to deny or grant the customer device access, to resources of the network to receive delivery of the network service, based on the identified changes in the network topology and/or the network capacity.

A method includes storing, at a first network device configured to communicate with at least one set top box (STB) and at least one digital video recorder (DVR), information identifying parameters associated with bandwidth in a home network. The method may also include receiving, at a first network device in the home network, a request having a corresponding first bandwidth and identifying a class of traffic associated with the request. The method may further include determining whether the first bandwidth is less than an available bandwidth associated with the identified class of traffic, approving the request when the first bandwidth is less than the available bandwidth, and modifying the available bandwidth associated with the identified class of traffic in response to approving the request.

Methods and systems for providing a notification of a compliance level of an application with respect to a privacy profile associated with a user

A method and a system for sending a ring setting reminder to one or more mobile devices within a predetermined area are provided. The ring setting reminder may be a reminder signal sent to cell phones and other mobile devices within a movie theater complex or other predetermined area to remind the users of the mobile devices to silence the ringers of the mobile devices before the start of the movie or other event. The identification of the mobile devices may occur at the predetermined area or through a wireless communication network. The wireless communication network may be configured to identify the predetermined area within the wireless communication network, identify one or more of the mobile devices located within the predetermined area, and send the reminder signal to correspond with the start of an event at the predetermined area.

Method and system for sending ring setting reminders to mobile devices within a predetermined area

A device may include a memory to store parameters associated with allocating bandwidth. The bandwidth may be allocated among at least a local class of traffic and a network class of traffic, and a portion of the bandwidth may be shareable between the local and network classes of traffic. The device may also include a communication interface to receive requests for access to bandwidth from a number of devices, the devices including at least one set top box (STB) and at least one digital video recorder (DVR). The device may also include logic to receive a first request having a corresponding first bandwidth and being associated with a first class of traffic, and determine whether the first bandwidth plus currently used bandwidth associated with the first class of traffic is less than a reserved bandwidth associated with the first class of traffic. The logic may also be configured to approve the first request when the first bandwidth plus currently used bandwidth associated with the first class of traffic is less than the reserved bandwidth associated with the first class of traffic. The logic may be further configured to forward the first request to a second device to determine whether a portion of the shareable bandwidth is available to fulfill the request, when the first bandwidth plus the currently used bandwidth associated with the first class of traffic is not greater than a maximum bandwidth associated with the first class of traffic.

An approach is provided for alerting registered devices of an emergency call, detecting an emergency call from a calling device; determining an identifier of the calling device; retrieving a list of one or more registered devices based on the identifier; determining location information of the calling device; and generating a notification message for transmission to the one or more registered devices, wherein the notification message specifies notification of the emergency call and the location information of the calling device.

A device may include a storage device and a processor. The storage device may be configured to store video programs and advertisements. The processor may be configured to display a graphical user interface that provides a list of video programs and advertisements stored in the storage device, receive a user selection of a video program and advertisement in the list of video programs and advertisements, provide the advertisement to a content presentation device for user viewing, track whether the device plays the advertisement, determine a number of credits for playing the advertisement, and credit the user account based on the number of credits.

A resource manager permits a first user to use a first bandwidth of a shared pool of bandwidth for receiving a first media stream, where the shared pool of bandwidth comprises a maximum amount of available bandwidth. The resource manager receives a request from a second user to use a second bandwidth of the shared pool of bandwidth for receiving a second media stream, and determines whether it is permissible to decrease the quality of the first media stream or the second media stream to reduce the first bandwidth or the second bandwidth such that the second bandwidth combined with the first bandwidth does not exceed the maximum amount of available bandwidth of the pool of bandwidth, where determining whether it is permissible to decrease the quality of the first media stream or the second media stream includes one of: signaling the first user to determine if the first user approves decreasing the quality of the first media stream, or signaling the second user to determine if the second user approves decreasing the quality of the second media stream. The resource manager further decreases the quality of the first media stream or the second media stream based on the permissibility determination.

Adaptive bandwidth resource management for media streams

Systems and methods for facilitating automatic configuration of network devices for network services are disclosed. In one of many possible embodiments, a request for information for configuring a network device is received from a requesting device. The request is in a first protocol format. The information is retrieved from a directory subsystem in a second protocol format. The retrieved information is converted from the second protocol format to the first protocol format. The converted information is transmitted in the first protocol format to the requesting device in response to the request.
