The present disclosure relates to system and method for cleaning an end face of a bare optical fiber (). The system and methods include inserting the end face of the bare optical fiber () through a layer of material () that includes electrospun fibers.

The present disclosure relates to a fiber optic connector including a connector body () having a front end and a rear end. A shutter () is mounted at the front end of the connector body (). The shutter () is movable relative to the connector body () between an open position and a closed position. The fiber optic connector () includes an optical fiber () having an end face that is accessible at the front end of the connector body () when the shutter () is in the open position. The fiber optic connector () also includes a cleaning material () provided at an inner side of the shutter () that covers the end face of the optical fiber () when the shutter () is in the closed position.
