A diesel engine system has a piston in which a cavity is formed in a crown surface. The cavity has a bottom part, a peripheral part dented so as to be convex radially outward in a cross-sectional view, and a lip part formed above the peripheral part and protruding so as to be convex radially inward in the cross-sectional view. An injection controller causes an injector to perform, during operation in a given operating range, a main injection in which injected fuel is directed to the lip part, and an after-injection in which a smaller amount of fuel than the main injection is injected at a given period later than the main injection in an expansion stroke. An injection interval period that is a period of time from an end of the main injection to a start of the after-injection is shorter as an injection pressure of fuel increases.

Diesel engine system

An engine control device is provided. A fuel injection valve performs a pre-injection and a main injection on a retarding side of the pre-injection so that pressure waves resulting from combustions caused by the injections cancel each other out. The control device secures a fuel injection amount to be supplied to a combustion chamber in one cycle by at least the pre-injection, the main injection, and a middle injection. The control device causes the fuel injection valve to perform the pre-injection at a timing when a piston is located at an advancing side of compression top dead center for premix combustion, to start the main injection during a combustion period of the fuel injected by the pre-injection for diffuse combustion, and to perform the middle injection at a timing between the other two injections with a fuel injection amount less than the other injections.

Engine control device and method of controlling engine

An engine combustion chamber structure includes a combustion chamber of an engine and a fuel injection valve. The fuel injection valve injects fuel toward a cavity in a crown face of a piston. The cavity includes a first cavity provided in a radially central region of the crown face with a first bottom having a first depth, a second cavity provided in an outer side of the first cavity with a second bottom having a second depth being smaller than the first depth, a connecting portion, and a standing wall region disposed further in a radially outer side than the second bottom of the second cavity. The second bottom is provided lower than an upper end, of the connecting portion. A lower section of the standing wall region is provided further in a radially inner side than an upper edge of the standing wall region.

Combustion chamber structure of engine

A control device for a compression ignition engine is provided, which causes an injector to perform a pre-injection and a main injection, sets fuel injection timings of these injections so that an interval between a first peak of a heat release rate resulting from the combustion of fuel injected by the pre-injection and a second peak of the heat release rate resulting from the combustion of fuel injected by the main injection becomes an interval to make pressure waves caused by these combustions cancel each other out, and when an increase of an intake air temperature is detected, controls the injector to reduce the injection amount of the pre-injection and retard the injection timing of the pre-injection compared with a case where the increase of the intake air temperature is not detected under a condition that engine load and speed are the same.

Control device for compression ignition engine

A control device for a compression ignition engine is provided, which causes an injector to perform a pre-injection and a main injection, sets fuel injection timings of these injections so that an interval between a first peak of a heat release rate resulting from the combustion of fuel injected by the pre-injection and a second peak of the heat release rate resulting from the combustion of fuel injected by the main injection becomes an interval to make pressure waves caused by these combustions cancel each other out, and when an increase of a wall surface temperature of a combustion chamber is detected, controls the injector to reduce the injection amount and retard the injection timing of the pre-injection compared with a case where the temperature increase is not detected, under a condition that engine load and speed are the same.

A cavity includes a lower-side cavity, an upper-side cavity, a first lip and a second lip. The upper-side cavity has a guide curved surface which extends along a circumference of a first imaginary circle in a section along a cylinder-axis direction, and the first lip has a curved surface which extends along a circumference of a second imaginary circle in a section along the cylinder-axis direction. An angle X which a cylinder axis makes with a common tangential line of the first imaginary circle and the second imaginary circle is set as 75&#xb0;&#x3c;X&#x3c;80&#xb0;. The guide curved surface is configured such that an angle Y of this guide curved surface which occupies at the circumference of the first imaginary circle is set as 80&#xb0;&#x3c;Y&#x3c;(180&#xb0;&#x2212;X).

Compression ignition engine

A control device for an engine is provided. A cavity formed in a crown surface of a piston of the engine includes a first cavity part disposed in a radially center area, a second cavity part disposed radially outward of the first cavity part, and a connecting part connecting these two parts. The control device causes a fuel injection valve to perform a first injection in which fuel is injected at a timing when the piston is located at an advancing side of CTDC and an injection axis thereof intersects with the connecting part, a second injection in which fuel is injected toward the first cavity part at a retarding side of the first injection, and a middle injection in which fuel is injected at a timing between the first and second injections, for a period shorter than each of the first and second injections.

Engine control device

A control device for a compression ignition engine is provided, which causes an injector to perform a pre-injection and a main injection, sets fuel injection timings of these injections so that an interval between a first peak of a heat release rate resulting from the combustion of fuel injected by the pre-injection and a second peak of the heat release rate resulting from the combustion of fuel injected by the main injection becomes an interval to make pressure waves caused by these combustions cancel each other out, and when an increase of an oxygen concentration of intake air supplied to a combustion chamber is detected, controls the injector to reduce the injection amount and retard the injection timing of the pre-injection compared with a case where the concentration increase is not detected under a condition that engine load and speed are the same.

A fuel injection control device causes an injector to execute main injection or pilot injection toward a joint portion, and low penetration injection to inject fuel at timing earlier than the pilot injection in a PILOT region or at timing later than the main injection in an AFTER region. The fuel injection control device causes the low penetration injection to be executed to inject the fuel only in a radial central region of a combustion chamber.

Fuel injection control system and fuel injection control method for diesel engine

A fuel injection control causes a fuel injection valve to execute at least: a main injection to inject fuel at timing when a piston is positioned near a compression top dead center; a pilot injection to inject the fuel at timing earlier than the main injection; and a low penetration injection to inject the fuel at timing earlier than the pilot injection or timing later than the main injection. The fuel injection control device includes: a first injection control module that executes at least one of the main injection or the pilot injection at timing to inject the fuel toward a joint portion of a cavity; and a second injection control module that executes the low penetration injection to inject the fuel only into a radial central region of a combustion chamber.

A control system of an engine is provided, which includes a piston formed with a cavity and configured to reciprocate in a cylinder along a center axis of the cylinder, and a fuel injector disposed facing a top surface of the piston and configured to inject fuel along an injection axis. When the piston is located near a top dead center of compression stroke, the fuel injector performs a first injection so that the fuel flows from the fuel injector toward the cavity along the injection axis, collides with an inner surface of the cavity, then flows back toward the fuel injector along the inner surface of the cavity from a position offset from the injection axis. The fuel injector performs a second injection toward the cavity at a timing after the first injection and at which the fuel of the first injection flows back.

Method and system for controlling engine

A structure of a combustion chamber is provided. The structure includes a cavity formed in a central part of a crown surface of a piston and a wall surface constituting the cavity. The wall surface has a central ridge portion bulging farther toward a bottom surface of a cylinder head toward a center of the cavity, a periphery concave portion formed radially outward of the central ridge portion to concave radially outward, and a lip portion formed between the periphery concave portion and an opening edge of the cavity to convex radially inward. An outer circumferential part of the crown surface has a first portion and a second portion located radially outward of the first portion. A stepped portion is formed between the first and second portions. A stepped portion volume ratio of a stepped portion volume to a top dead center volume is set to 0.1 or smaller.

Combustion chamber structure for diesel engine

A diesel engine includes a piston, a cylinder head, and a fuel injector. The fuel injector has a valve body with bored nozzle holes in its tip part. A cavity having a circular shape in plan view is formed in a crown surface of the piston to concave to the counter cylinder head side. A wall surface constituting the cavity has a central ridge portion bulging toward the fuel injector while bulging larger toward the center of the cavity, a periphery concave portion formed radially outward of the central ridge portion to concave radially outward, and a lip portion formed between the periphery concave portion and the crown surface to convex radially inward. A lip radius R, a nozzle hole length L, a nozzle hole diameter D, and a bore radius B are designed to satisfy the following equation:99.4&#xd7;(1&#x2212;3)&#xd7;(+2.7)&#x2266;&#x2266;min{237.1&#xd7;(1&#x2212;3)&#xd7;(0.8+1),2/3}.

Diesel engine

A wall shape of a cavity consists of an inward protruding portion located at the periphery of an opening, a center portion projecting toward a fuel injector, and a peripheral portion connecting the inward protruding portion and the center portion. The fuel injector and the cavity are configured so that fuel injected from fuel injector directs to the proximity of the border between the inward protruding portion and the peripheral portion. The peripheral portion consists of a first portion located farthermost from the fuel injector, a second portion located between the inward protruding portion and the first portion, and a third portion located between the first portion and the center portion. The radii of arcs of the peripheral portion decrease from the second portion to the first portion and increase from the first portion to the third portion.

A fuel injection nozzle for a diesel engine. The fuel injection nozzle may include a plurality of injection hole groups, each having two injection holes respectively. A distance between the two injection holes, an angle between longitudinal axes of the two injection holes and an angle between horizontal axes of said two injection holes of each injection hole group are each set such that fuel sprays injected from said two injection holes will form a single fuel spray cloud after the fuel sprays collide with a side wall of a combustion chamber formed in a top surface of a piston of the engine, and such that the distance between collision points of the fuel sprays will be in a predetermined range in which a penetration force of said fuel spray cloud along a longitudinal direction of said combustion chamber received after collision with said wall of said combustion chamber is at or near a predetermined maximum value.
