An electronic device and method thereof of are provided to prevent burnout due to overcurrent. An electronic device includes a power amplifier configured to amplify a transmission signal; a battery configured to provide a bias voltage to the at least one power amplifier; and an overcurrent protection circuit configured to prevent overcurrent from flowing through the power amplifier. The overcurrent protection circuit includes a configurer configured to configure a reference current value, based on the power amplifier; a measurer configured to measure a bias current value due to the bias voltage; a comparator configured to compare the measured bias current value with the reference current value; and a controller configured to recognize overcurrent flowing through the power amplifier and control provision of the bias voltage, based on a result of the comparison.

Protection circuit in electronic device and method therefor

An apparatus and a method are provided for, in an electronic device which generates a reference signal having a reference frequency, mixes the reference signal to an input signal for transmission, and amplifies power, outputting a control signal for turning off amplifying the power, if a frequency of a signal acquired at an arbitrary point after generating the reference signal or mixing the signals before amplifying the power is out of a designated frequency band, thus preventing burnout of a power amplifier.

The electronic device includes an antenna, an amplification circuit configured to amplify a signal to be transmitted through the antenna, a first sensing circuit configured to sense first information corresponding to a voltage value of power supplied to the amplification circuit, a second sensing circuit configured to sense second information corresponding to a current value of the power, and a protective circuit. The protective circuit may be configured to summate the first information and the second information into a single parameter, to determine whether a summation value corresponding to the single parameter deviates from an operating area determined by characteristics of the amplification circuit, and to adjust an output of the amplification circuit if the summation value deviates from the operating area.
