An electrodeionization filter includes: a housing having a water inlet and a water outlet; a first electrode installed inside the housing in a spiral shape; a second electrode installed inside the housing in a spiral shape so as to be spaced apart from the first electrode; and an ion exchange module installed between the first electrode and the second electrode for adsorbing or desorbing ionic substances contained in water introduced by an application of electricity. At least one of the first electrode and the second electrode has a structure in which a center portion thereof is denser than a peripheral region thereof. Accordingly, the lifespan of the electrodes of the electrodeionization filter can be increased, and the assembly of the electrodes and related parts can be easily facilitated.

Disclosed are an electrode having a three-dimensional structure, the electrode including: a porous nonwoven web including a plurality of polymer fibers that form an interconnected porous network; an active material composite positioned among the polymer fibers and including active material particles and a first conductive material; and a second conductive material positioned on an outer surface of the active material composite, wherein the interconnected porous network is filled homogeneously with the active material composite and the second conductive material to form a super lattice structure, and an electrochemical device including the electrode having a three-dimensional structure.

A separator includes a porous substrate having a plurality of pores; and a porous coating layer formed on at least one surface of the porous substrate and made of a mixture of a binder and a plurality of inorganic particles, wherein the binder includes a crosslinked binder. This separator may improve high temperature cycle performance, discharge characteristics and thermal resistance of an electrochemical device since the separator exhibits improved insolubility and impregnation to electrolyte and improved thermal resistance.

Disclosed is an electrode whose surface includes an organic/inorganic composite porous coating layer comprising heat-absorbing inorganic particles and a binder polymer, wherein the heat-absorbing inorganic particle is at least one particle selected from the group consisting of antimony-containing compounds, metal hydroxides, guanidine-based compounds, born-containing compounds and zinc tartrate compounds. A separator using the heat-absorbing inorganic particles as a component for forming or coating the separator, and an electrochemical device including the electrode and/or the separator are also disclosed. The separator using the heat-absorbing inorganic particles as a component for forming or coating the separator can ensure excellent thermal safety and minimizes degradation of the quality of a battery.

Lithium secondary battery with enhanced heat-resistance

An electrochemical device includes an electrode structure provided with a composite separator having a porous substrate with a plurality of pores and a porous coating layer formed on at least one surface of the porous substrate and made of a mixture of electrode active material particles and a binder polymer. The porous coating layer of the composite separator improves thermal stability of the porous substrate and plays a function of electrode active material layer of the electrochemical device. Accordingly, this electrochemical device has excellent stability and good economical efficiency since the electrode structure does not need coating of an electrode active material layer on a surface of a current collector.

Provided is a method for manufacturing an anode of a cable-type secondary battery having a solid electrolyte layer, including preparing an aqueous solution of an anode active material, making an anode by immersing a core as a current collector having a horizontal cross section of a predetermined shape and extending longitudinally in the aqueous solution, then applying an electric current to form a porous shell of the anode active material on the surface of the core, and forming a solid electrolyte layer on the surface of the anode by passing the anode through a solid electrolyte solution. The anode has a high contact area to increase the mobility of lithium ions, thereby improving battery performance. Also, the anode is capable of relieving stress and pressure in the battery, such as volume expansion during charging and discharging, thereby preventing battery deformation and ensuring battery stability.

A separator includes a non-woven fabric substrate having pores, fine thermoplastic powder located inside the pores of the non-woven fabric substrate, and a porous coating layer disposed on at least one surface of the non-woven fabric substrate. The fine thermoplastic powder has an average diameter smaller than that of the pores and a melting point lower than the melting or decomposition point of the non-woven fabric substrate. The porous coating layer includes a mixture of inorganic particles and a binder polymer whose melting point is higher than the melting or decomposition point of the fine thermoplastic powder. In the porous coating layer, the inorganic particles are fixedly connected to each other by the binder polymer and the pores are formed by interstitial volumes between the inorganic particles. Previous filling of the large pores of the non-woven fabric substrate with the fine thermoplastic powder makes the porous coating layer uniform.

Disclosed is an electrolyte for an electrochemical device. The electrolyte includes a composite of a plastic crystal matrix electrolyte doped with an ionic salt and a crosslinked polymer structure. The electrolyte has high ionic conductivity comparable to that of a liquid electrolyte due to the use of the plastic crystal, and high mechanical strength comparable to that of a solid electrolyte due to the introduction of the crosslinked polymer structure. Further disclosed is a method for preparing the electrolyte. The method does not essentially require the use of a solvent. Therefore, the electrolyte can be prepared in a simple manner by the method. The electrolyte is suitable for use in a cable-type battery whose shape is easy to change due to its high ionic conductivity and high mechanical strength.

A solid polymeric electrolyte having a pattern, and a lithium battery including the same, includes a polymer matrix having a mesh structure and being formed of a cured photo-crosslinking agent; inorganic particles substantially uniformly distributed in the polymer matrix; and a liquid electrolyte comprised of a lithium salt and an organic solvent impregnated between the polymer matrix and the inorganic particles. The liquid electrolyte and the cured photo-crosslinking agent are present in a weight ratio ranging from 50:50 to 99:1. The liquid electrolyte containing the cured photo-crosslinking agent and the inorganic particle are present in a weight ratio ranging from 10:90 to 90:10. The solid polymeric electrolyte has properties suitable for a printing process to provide the pattern including a thickness ranging from about 10 nm to about 500 &#x3bc;m and, prior to curing the photo-crosslinking agent, a viscosity ranging from 100-10,000 poise under a shear rate condition of 1 sec.

The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an electrode having an organic/inorganic composite porous coating layer comprising porous inorganic particles and a binder polymer, wherein the porous inorganic particles have pores having such a size that lithium ions (Li) solvated in an electrolyte solvent can pass therethrough. The method comprises the steps of dispersing inorganic precursors and heat-decomposable compounds in a dispersion medium, misting the inorganic precursor solution, and performing a thermal decomposition and a crystallization processes, to thereby prepare porous inorganic particles, adding and mixing the porous inorganic particles to a polymer solution in which a binder polymer is dissolved, and coating the mixture onto a preliminarily formed electrode and drying the coating layer.

A method of fabricating a solid polymeric electrolyte having a pattern includes mixing constituents including a liquid electrolyte, a photo-crosslinking agent, and inorganic particles to form an electrolyte paste; dispersing together the constituents of the electrolyte paste; coating the electrolyte paste on a substrate; pressing the electrolyte paste with a patterned mold having a shape to copy the shape of the patterned mold onto the electrolyte paste and provide said pattern; and illuminating an ultraviolet light onto the electrolyte paste to induce a photo-crosslinking reaction and cure the photo-crosslinking agent of the electrolyte paste, wherein said solid polymeric electrolyte includes a polymer matrix having a mesh structure, the polymer matrix being formed of the cured photo-crosslinking agent; inorganic particles distributed in the polymer matrix; and a lithium salt and an organic solvent impregnated between the polymer matrix and the inorganic particles.
