A liquid crystal display having an in-cell backlight and method of manufacturing the same is provided. The liquid crystal display includes a front substrate and a rear substrate opposite to each other. A color filter layer comprises a black matrix, a color filter and a common electrode on the front substrate. An array element comprises a plurality of gate lines and data lines having to cross each other, and a pixel electrode with the common electrode to generate electric field on the rear substrate. A liquid crystal layer is disposed between the color filter layer and the array element. A light source layer is disposed between the rear substrate and the array element and configured to supply light to the front substrate. At least one polarization plate is laminated on the light source layer.

An array substrate includes a gate line disposed along a first direction on a substrate; a gate electrode extending from the gate line; a gate insulating layer over the substrate, including the gate line; a first plane layer on first portions of the gate insulating layer; a semiconductor layer on second portions of the gate insulating layer and on the first plane layer; a second plane layer over the first plane layer; a data line; a source electrode and a drain electrode on the semiconductor layer and on the second plane layer, the source electrode extending from the data line; a passivation layer on the second plane layer, the source electrode, the drain electrode and the semiconductor layer; and a pixel electrode on the passivation layer, the pixel electrode electrically connected to the drain electrode via a first contact hole.

Array substrate, liquid crystal display device having the same, and manufacturing method thereof

An electrophoretic display device is described. The device includes a substrate, first electrodes, an electrophoretic film having electrophoretic particles, and second electrodes. The substrate is has a plurality of pixel regions. First electrodes are disposed respectively on each pixel region, and include first patterns separated from one another and second patterns connected to the first patterns. The second electrode is disposed on the electrophoretic film. The area of one of the electrodes, opposing the other of the electrodes has apertures formed therein, reducing the contact area between the electrode and the electrophoretic film.

A liquid crystal display device includes a gate line on a substrate; a data line defining a pixel region by crossing the gate line; a thin film transistor formed at a crossing position between the gate line and the data line; a passivation layer protecting the thin film transistor; a pixel electrode connected with the thin film transistor; a common electrode generating an electric field with the pixel electrode; and a plurality of grooves on the passivation layer, wherein at least one of the pixel electrode and the common electrode is arranged at intervals in the pixel region, and the grooves are formed at intervals on the passivation layer disposed between the at least one of the pixel electrode and the common electrode arranged at intervals in the pixel region.

Liquid crystal display device and driving method for fabricating the same

A liquid crystal display device and a driving method thereof are provided. The liquid crystal display includes a data driver that is operative to supply data to the data lines. The data have the same polarity for the liquid crystal cells that are adjacent horizontally and opposite polarities for the liquid crystal cells that are adjacent vertically. A gate driver is operative to supply scan signals to the gate lines. The scan signals have different swing widths from each other in accordance with a polarity of the data. The switch devices include a plurality of first switch devices and a plurality of second switch devices. The first switch devices are connected to the (n&#x2212;1)(where n is a positive integer of not less than 2) gate line and the second switch devices are connected to the ngate line.

The method includes forming a gate line and a gate electrode on a substrate using a first mold, forming a gate insulating layer over the substrate and the gate line, forming a first plane layer on first portions of the gate insulating layer, forming a semiconductor layer on second portions of the gate insulating layer using a second mold, forming a second plane layer over the first plane layer, forming a data line on the second plane layer and a source electrode and a drain electrode on the semiconductor layer using a third mold, forming a passivation layer having a contact hole using a fourth mold, and forming a pixel electrode on the passivation layer using a fifth mold, the pixel electrode electrically connected to the drain electrode via the contact hole.
