A method and apparatus for auto white balance in a portable terminal is provided. The method includes analyzing a captured image with histograms of red, green, and blue channels and a histogram of a gray channel; determining whether the histogram of the RGB channels and the histogram of the gray channel overlap over a predetermined percentage; measuring each color distribution average value of the RGB channels when the histogram of the RGB channels and the histogram of the gray channel overlap over a predetermined percentage; and performing color temperature correction using the color distribution average value measured in each of the RGB channels.

Disclosed is a method for displaying signal strength bars in a wireless terminal device. In the first step, RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) values of the wireless terminal device consecutively collected for a predetermined time T are analyzed, and C/I (Carrier to Interference) ratios consecutively calculated for the predetermined time T are analyzed. In the second step, the number of signal strength bars to be displayed on the wireless terminal device is determined based on the analysis result of the first step. In the third step, the determined number of signal strength bars is displayed on the wireless terminal device. The signal strength bars are displayed in consideration of peripheral interferences around a wireless terminal device, and thus users can see the telephone communication quality or data transfer speed more accurately. In addition, the signal strength bars are displayed based on a predetermined number of C/I ratios and RSSI values consecutively obtained, and thus the instability in the displaying of the signal strength bars can be reduced.

An apparatus and method for controlling a volume of comfort noise in a mobile communication terminal. The mobile communication terminal includes a vocoder for detecting a decoding rate of voice data received after establishing a voice call to output a detection signal and an amplifier for amplifying an output signal of the vocoder. The method comprises the steps of determining whether the decoding rate of the voice data from the vocoder is &#x215b;, recognizing the voice data as silence period data containing only the comfort noise and providing the vocoder with a control signal to lower a volume of the comfort noise, if the decoding rate of the voice data is &#x215b;, and controlling a volume of the voice data such that it becomes a volume preset by a user, if the decoding rate of the voice data is not &#x215b;.
