Disclosed is a mutant strain having the ability to produce polyhydroxybutyrate. The novel strain has a significantly high growth rate and an improved ability to produce PHB compared to existing PHB-producing cyanobacterial strains. Therefore, the novel strain is suitable for use in the production of PHB and the development of various products using PHB. In addition, the novel strain is useful as a photosynthetic strain for developing a PHB production process using industrial flue gas due to its ability to produce PHB from only COwithout any additional organic carbon source. Also disclosed is a method for producing polyhydroxybutyrate using the mutant strain.

The present invention relates to a nanoplasmonic biosensor capable of label-free multiplex detection of disease markers in blood with high selectivity and sensitivity and a method for detecting disease markers using the nanoplasmonic biosensor. The nanoplasmonic biosensor of the present invention enables label-free multiplex detection of miRNAs as disease markers in blood with high selectivity and sensitivity. Therefore, the nanoplasmonic biosensor of the present invention can be effectively used for the diagnosis of miRNA-related diseases and clinical applications.

Nanoplasmonic biosensor and method for detecting disease markers using the same

The present invention relates to a large-scale photosynthetic bioreactor in which transparent photobioreactors including a baffle are connected in parallel or in series by an adhesive element so that the reactor volume can be easily scaled up for scale-up culture of photosynthetic organisms, and to a fabrication method thereof. The large-scale photosynthetic bioreactor according to the present invention makes it possible to culture a larger amount of microalgae than a conventional photobioreactor in the same area. In addition, it has high light transmittance, produces a large amount of biomass per unit area due to smooth mixing, and has a significant effect of reducing carbon dioxide. Furthermore, the present invention has an advantage in that the number of photosynthetic bioreactors required to culture the same scale of photosynthetic organisms is significantly smaller than that in a conventional process for culture of photosynthetic organisms, and thus the operating costs can be reduced.

A method for carbon resource utilization is disclosed. According to one embodiment, the method includes (a) supplying carbon dioxide to a medium to form bicarbonate ions (HCO) (S), (b) inoculating one or more microalgal species into the medium, followed by photo-culture (S), and (c) supplying calcium ions (Ca) to the medium, where the microalgal species are photo-cultured, to produce calcite (CaCO)-containing biomass (S).

A method for screening an anticancer candidate is disclosed. The method includes immobilizing gold nanoparticles onto a substrate; binding a protein involved in carcinogenesis and metastasis to the immobilized gold nanoparticles, recording a spectrum of the protein conjugate, and analyzing the spectrum to obtain reference data; adding a candidate inhibiting the activity of the protein to the protein conjugate, recording a spectrum of the mixture, and analyzing the spectrum to obtain comparative data; and comparing the reference data with the comparative data to determine whether the candidate inhibits the activity of the protein. The method enables screening of a candidate inhibiting the activity of a protein involved in carcinogenesis and metastasis in an accurate and convenient manner.

The present invention relates to microalgae with improved phototaxis and photosynthetic efficiency, and more particularly, to a microalgae PTS42 (KCTC18499P) mutant ofand uses thereof. In the microalgae PTS42 according to the present invention of which photosensitivity and photosynthetic efficiency are improved due to excellent phototaxis, conversion of carbon dioxide into biomass is excellent as compared to a wild type strain and a maximum photosynthesis rate and lipid accumulation ability are also high, such that the microalgae PTS42 are useful as a photosynthetic strain for constructing a biofuel production process as well as an effect of decreasing carbon dioxide.

Microalgae with improved phototaxis and photosynthetic efficiency

The present invention relates to a photobioreactor, and more particularly, a photobioreactor for culturing living organisms such as microalgae, which carry out photosynthesis using carbon dioxide and light energy. The photobioreactor includes: (a) a reaction vessel, in which photosynthesis occurs by photosynthetic organisms; (b) a multipurpose inlet/outlet formed at the outside upper end of the reaction vessel; (c) an outer pipe connected to the multipurpose inlet/outlet at the outside of the reaction vessel; and (d) an inner pipe connected to the multipurpose inlet/outlet at the inside of the reaction vessel, wherein the reaction vessel is made of a transparent film. The photobioreactor according to the present invention is advantageous in that the reaction vessel in which photosynthesis occurs is a plate-type and made of a transparent film, thus achieving improved light transmittance and mobility, and enabling the economically advantageous manufacture and operation thereof. Therefore, the photobioreactor of the present invention can be easily installed anywhere carbon dioxide is discharged, such as around a power-generating plant, in an urban region, a farm, etc., to culture a variety of photosynthetic organisms, and thus to produce useful substances having economically high added values.

The present invention relates to a method for preparing metal nanostructures using DNA, and more particularly, to a method for preparing metal nanostructures, in which a self-assembling DNA is used as a frame, and thus the orientation, shape and size of the nanostructures are easily controlled compared to conventional bottom-up methods. The present invention relates to a drug delivery vehicle comprising a polydiacetylene liposome, wherein a lipid bilayer is formed by a mixture of 10,12-pentacosadiynoic acid (PCDA), 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (DOPE), and N-palmitoyl homocysteine (PHC), and a drug to be delivered is encapsulated in an isolated inner space of a polydiacetylene liposome. The PDA liposome drug delivery vehicle of the present invention comprises a lipid layer formed by mixing different phospholipids, excluding polydiacetylene, so as to be stable, and thus any leakage problems of an encapsulated drug are eliminated. In addition, since the liposome is sensitive to a pH, the shape and size thereof can be readily changed through the formation of a liposome-liposome conjugate by the improved sensitivity of the drug delivery vehicle under a specific acidic requirement, thereby enabling selective drug release, and thus can be applied as a drug delivery vehicle for various target materials. Additionally, the release of a drug can be controlled by controlling a pH requirement of the surroundings, and a drug release process can be monitored in real time through the fluorescence expressed by the stimulation to the surroundings.

The present invention discloses a microfluidic photoreaction system and a method for screening a single cell organism having changed light-response characteristics. According to the present invention, an improved single cell organism can be effectively screened based on phototaxis using a microfluidic system. Specifically, easy monitoring at the cellular level is possible, and a mutant strain having an increased response and/or sensitivity to light can be easily and rapidly screened by various analyses, including statistical analysis of collected results. Thus, the present invention can be effectively used to investigate the correlation between phototaxis and photoconversion efficiency and to screen a single cell organism having increased photosynthetic efficiency.

A method has been developed for control of molecular weight and molecular weight dispersity during production of polyhydroxyalkanoates in genetically engineered organism by control of the level and time of expression of one or more PHA synthases in the organisms. The method was demonstrated by constructing a synthetic operon for PHA production in E. coli in which the level of PHA synthase activity could be tightly controlled by placement of the synthase behind an inducible promoter. Modulation of the total level of PHA synthase activity in the host cell by varying the concentration of the inducer, isopropyl .beta.-D-thiogalactoside (IPTG), was found to effect the molecular weight of the polymer produced in the cell. Specifically, high concentrations of synthase activity were found to yield polymers of low molecular weight while low concentrations of synthase activity yielded polymers of higher molecular weight. Polymer molecular weight dispersity is also proportional to the amount of synthase activity, with less dispersity in polyhydroxyalkanoate compositions produced in expression systems with an initial burst of synthase activity, and higher levels of molecular weight dispersity in polyhydroxyalkanoate compositions produced in expression systems with the levels of synthase activity varied during synthesis of the polyhydroxyalkanoate.
