The present invention relates to a tunable dispersion and dispersion slope compensator based on an optical fiber grating in an optical communication system. The compensator includes: a first disk having a ring shape, wherein the first disk is configured to rotate; a second disk installed at an inner space of the first disk, wherein the second disk is configured not to rotate; a metal plate configured to bend as the first disk rotates; and an optical fiber grating adhered to the metal plate, wherein the optical fiber grating has different strains according to positions when the metal plate rotates.

Tunable dispersion and dispersion slope compensator in optical telecommunication system

Disclosed herein is a functional tunable multichannel filter which is capable of adjusting channel spacing and/or a wavelength location using polarization controllers (&#x3bb;/2, (&#x3bb;/4). The functional tunable multichannel filter includes one or more polarization maintaining fibers, a first polarization controller (&#x3bb;/2), a second polarization controller (&#x3bb;/4) and a 3 dB coupler. Additionally, the functional tunable multichannel filter is configured to tune a wavelength and adjust channel spacing by adjusting polarization of an optical signal passing through each of the polarization maintaining fibers using the first and second polarization controllers.

Functional tunable multichannel filter

An apparatus and method for realizing an all-optical NOR logic device includes a distributed feedback laser diode and a tunable laser diode respectively generating two pump signals of different wavelengths. The apparatus also includes a pulse generator and a Mach-Zehnder modulator modulating the pump signals. The apparatus also includes a delay line adapted to delay a pump signal that has been split from the modulated pump signals and that travels along one optical path, and a polarization controller and an optical attenuator adapted to control another pump signal that has been split from the modulated pump signals and that travels along another optical path, to have the same polarization and intensity as those of the pump signal passing through the delay line. An Er-doped amplifier amplifies the sum of the pump signals so that the amplified pump signal sum saturates a semiconductor optical amplifier. The semiconductor optical amplifier exhibits gain saturation and wavelength conversion characteristics in response to an output signal from the Er-doped fiber amplifier and a probe signal passing therethrough. A plurality of 50:50 fiber couplers are coupled to respective output ends of the laser diodes, the Mach-Zehnder modulator, the attenuator, and the Er-doped fiber amplifier in order to conduct coupling and splitting operations for the pump signals.

Apparatus and method for realizing all-optical NOR logic device

The gain control device in a semiconductor optical amplifier using an optical fiber grating includes an input unit for receiving an optical signal, an output unit for outputting an amplified optical signal, and input and output optical isolators connected to the input and output units to establish paths of the input and output optical signals. The gain control device further includes a tension-controllable optical fiber grating connected to the input optical isolator for fine adjustment of a reflection peak wavelength. A semiconductor optical amplifier connected to the tension-controllable optical fiber grating is also provided to amplify the optical signal. A power supply supplies power to the semiconductor optical amplifier to drive the optical amplifier. In addition, an optical fiber grating is connected to the semiconductor optical amplifier and has a predetermined reflection peak wavelength.
