A personal life raft includes a rigid compartment, a first flexible arm member in sealed engagement with a first port on a first side of the rigid compartment, a second flexible arm member in sealed engagement with a second port on a second side of the rigid compartment. Each of the first flexible arm member and the second flexible arm member are impervious to water or waterproof such that water does not pass therethrough. The rigid compartment has a body chamber therein having a volume to encompass at least an upper torso of a user of the personal life raft. The rigid compartment displaces sufficient water so that the personal life raft is buoyant while in use by the user.

Personal Life rafts

An erasable slate system includes a translucent layer adjacent a colored bottom layer, wherein application of a force to the translucent layer causes temporary adhesion of the translucent layer to the colored bottom layer in an area wherein the force is applied. The erasable slate system further includes an extending channel in fluid connection with the translucent layer and the colored bottom layer. The extending channel extends around at least 25% of the length of a perimeter of the bottom colored layer. The erasable slate system further includes an air pump in fluid connection with the extending channel via which pressurized air can be introduced into the extending channel to cause the translucent layer to be separated from adhesion to the colored bottom layer, thereby erasing markings, and via which air can exit the extending channel of the erasable slate system.

Pneumatically erasable slate

A method for joining nanotubes end-to-end, includes contacting the nanotubes with a joining fluid. The joining fluid has at least one property that is different from at least one property associated with ends of the nanotubes. In one embodiment, the method further includes contacting the nanotubes with a first, treating fluid and removing the bulk first fluid before the nanotubes are contacted with the joining fluid. The joining fluid is immiscible in the treating fluid to effect end-to-end joining of the nanotubes.

The present invention provides amphiphilic diacetylene compounds, and compositions and self-assembled nanotubes containing the same. Also provided are methods of producing the compounds, compositions, and nanotubes of the invention, and methods of destroying or inhibiting the growth or proliferation of microorganisms using the nanotubes of the present invention.
