Disclosed herein is an ethylene-propylene-diene EPDM rubber composition with improved adhesion properties. The ethylene-propylene-diene rubber composition comprises an EPDM rubber, a crystalline polyolefin, and a polyolefin containing at least one carbonyl group (&#x2014;C&#x2550;O) within the structure as an adhesion improver. The ethylene-propylene-diene rubber composition improves adhesion to a polar polymeric material. Specifically, the EPDM rubber composition comprises 100 phr of an EPDM rubber, 5&#x2dc;40 phr of a polyolefin containing at least one carbonyl group and 10&#x2dc;30 phr of a crystalline polyolefin resin.

Ethylene-propylene-diene rubber composition with improved adhesion properties

Disclosed herein is a method of preparing an EP(D)M elastomer, which includes pre-cooling a reactive solvent to &#x2212;80 to &#x2212;100&#xb0; C.; and polymerizing ethylene, at least one higher &#x3b1;-olefin having 3 to 18 carbons, and selectively, at least one conjugated or non-conjugated diene having 5 to 15 carbons, in the presence of the reactive solvent. According to the method of the current invention, the yield of the EP(D)M elastomer is drastically increased even though a conventional preparation device is used unchanged. Further, methods of controlling the yield of the EP(D)M elastomer and of recovering the EP(D)M elastomer are provided.

Disclosed are a chemically modified polyolefin elastomer composition that is highly compatible with thermoplastics and useful in improving the low temperature impact strength of thermoplastics, and a method for preparing the chemically modified polyolefin elastomer composition. The elastomer composition includes a polyolefin resin and a chemically modified ethylene-&#x3b1;-olefin elastomer mixed with the polyolefin resin. The chemically modified ethylene-&#x3b1;-olefin elastomer includes an ethylene-&#x3b1;-olefin elastomer backbone and grafted branches from the backbone. The branches includes polymers of one or more monomers comprising an unsaturated organic compound containing at least one carbonyl group. The method of producing the composition includes mixing an ethylene-&#x3b1;-olefin elastomer and a polyolefin resin to provide a mixture thereof, to which added is one or more monomers having an unsaturated organic compound containing at least one carbonyl group. Then the one or more monomers are polymerized in the presence of a grafting initiator.
