A telephone communicates with a base station and a network, each having an answering machine. The telephone has a key and a controller which connects the telephone to the base answering machine of the base station in response to activating the key for a first period of time, and connects the telephone to the network answering machine of the network in response to activating the key for a second period of time.

Telephony system with a key for accessing multiple answering machines or mailboxes

The invention discloses a base station connected to the telephone line, at least one handset including, inter alia, a display and means for transmitting CLMS messages defined by the DECT standard. For transmitting data messages of arbitrary length, the device further includes a transmitting part formed by means for dividing the data messages into segments and for transmitting the segments in as many CLMS messages, and a receiving part for displaying the messages on the display.

A device of the DECT type is disclosed which includes a base station connected to the telephone network transmitting an identification information signal which defines a calling user. This station is formed by a processor assembly, a memory containing an execution program and a random-access memory. The device also includes at least one handset formed by, inter alia, a display, a processor assembly notably intended to control said display. For transmitting the identification information, broadcasting means are provided for broadcasting to all the handsets by using message transmission means for transmitting messages of the service provided by said DECT standard.
