A downhole fluid analysis system includes an optical sensor that includes a light source configured to emit light, a light detector, and an optical tip optically coupled to the light source and the light detector. At least a portion of the light emitted from the light source travels through the optical tip and returns to the detector, wherein the optical tip has a bi-conical shape. The system further includes a piezoelectric helm resonator, in which the piezoelectric helm resonator generates a resonance response in response to an applied current, and an electromagnetic spectroscopy sensor positioned symmetrically with respect to the piezoelectric helm resonator in at least one direction. In some embodiments, the optical tip includes a first conical portion and a second conical portion.

Bi-conical optical sensor for obtaining downhole fluid properties

A method of analyzing a fluid includes acquiring a sample of the fluid extracted from a subterranean region proximate to a borehole, the borehole including an injected fluid, applying light having a first excitation wavelength to the fluid sample, and measuring a first fluorescence spectrum. The method also includes comparing the first fluorescence spectrum to a reference fluorescence spectrum corresponding to a fluid having injected fluid contamination and/or to a second fluorescence spectrum based on applying light having a second excitation wavelength to the fluid sample. The method further includes estimating a level of contamination of the fluid sample with the injected fluid based on the comparing.

Fluorescence spectroscopy for estimation of fluid contamination

A downhole fluid analysis system includes an optical sensor comprising, which includes a light source configured to emit light comprising a plurality of wavelengths, a light detector, and an optical tip through which at least a portion of the light travels and returns to the detector, wherein the incident angle of the light causes total internal reflection within the optical tip. The system further includes a piezoelectric helm resonator that generates a resonance response in response to an applied current, and an electromagnetic spectroscopy sensor positioned symmetrically with respect to the piezoelectric helm resonator in at least one direction. The light may be reflected in the optical tip at one or more reflection points, and each reflection point may generate an evanescent wave in a medium surrounding the optical tip. The light may be internally reflected in the optical tip at a plurality of reflection points.

Attenuated total internal reflection optical sensor for obtaining downhole fluid properties

A method of manufacturing is provided. The method can include determining a cross-sectional shape of an object to be inspected using a sensor configured with a sensor coil. The method can also include providing a substrate having a profile matching the cross-sectional shape of the object. The method can further include applying a dielectric material to the substrate in a patter matching a shape of the sensor coil. The method can also include forming a first layer of a first material on the dielectric material by sputtering particles of the first material on the dielectric material in the pattern and forming additional layers of the first material atop the first layer by iteratively depositing the additional layers in the pattern via an additive manufacturing technique. A sensor including a sensor coil formed via the method is also provided.

An apparatus for inspecting a well having nested multi-tubular structure, includes: an acoustic transducer conveyed in an inner-most tubular in the structure and configured to receive a return acoustic signal having a plurality of resonances due to the structure; an acoustic impedance matching material disposed on a sensing face of the acoustic transducer; a signal generator that generates a signal having a plurality of frequencies to drive the acoustic transducer; a signal shaper that modifies the signal to provide a drive signal to the acoustic transducer; and a processor configured to determine an annulus distance of any tubular in the structure with respect to an adjacent tubular using a time of flight of a transmitted acoustic signal, an acoustic speed in a component in the nested multi-tubular structure using the annulus distance and the plurality of resonances, and a characteristic of the component that corresponds with the acoustic speed.

The method includes deploying a sensor device including an electromagnetic acoustic transducer to a borehole location proximate to the structure, generating a drive signal including a plurality of frequencies, applying an electrical current signal to the sensor device based on the drive signal and inducing currents in the first conductive layer that induce currents generating acoustic signals having the plurality of frequencies, detecting a first set of resonant frequencies based on received electromagnetic signals, detecting a second set of resonant frequencies based on received acoustic signals, estimating a property of the first and/or the second conductive layer based on the first set of resonant frequencies, and estimating a property of the third layer based on the second set of resonant frequencies.
