Described herein are methods of recovering lithium from dilute lithium sources. The methods include extracting lithium from an extraction feed using direct lithium extraction in an extraction stage to yield a lithium intermediate, performing one or more concentration operations, each concentration operation concentrating an input stream to yield an output feed, wherein the input stream is obtained from the lithium intermediate and/or the extraction feed is obtained from the output feed. At least one of the concentration operations includes a membrane separation operation having a plurality of reactors in series each having a semi-permeable membrane, such as a counter-flow reverse osmosis operation. Methods may also include generating a low TDS stream as a permeate from any of the one or more concentration operations, wherein the low TDS stream is recycled or used as fresh water.

Method of recovering lithium from a lithium source

Systems and methods presented herein provide for a screw conveyor adsorption moving bed that separates carbon dioxide from a gas mixture. Adsorbent particles are transported between an adsorption section of the reactor, which can be an outer column, and a desorption section, which can be an inner column. The particle transport is facilitated by the screw conveyor located inside the inner column. The screw conveyor is specially designed to have a hollow screw, shaped as a spiral surface, attached to a central shaft. The screw surface is also equipped with plurality of holes and a flexible edge attachment to seal against the cylindrical surface. The hollow shape allows the gas to flow from the inlet of the shaft to the particles through the holes on the screw, thus creating uniform gas distribution.

Described herein are methods of recovering lithium from dilute lithium sources. The methods include concentrating a dilute aqueous lithium source to yield an extraction feed having an extraction lithium concentration; extracting lithium from the extraction feed using direct lithium extraction in an extraction stage to yield a lithium intermediate; concentrating a stream obtained from the lithium intermediate in a concentration stage to yield a lithium concentrate; and converting lithium in the lithium concentrate to lithium hydroxide.

Systems and methods presented herein provide for a box chain conveyor adsorption moving bed that separates carbon dioxide from a gas mixture. A box chain conveyor is oriented around a wall, including a chain that moves in a closed loop around the wall. One side of the box chain conveyor is in an adsorption section and an opposite second side is in a desorption section. Particle boxes contain adsorbent particles, and the chain moves the particle boxes around the wall in the closed loop. Heated gas passes through the desorption section, causing COto desorb from particle boxes in the desorption section. Desorbed COis expelled from an output.

A technique for reducing harmonic vibration in a multiplex multi-pump system. The technique includes establishing a lower bound of system specific vibration-related information such as via pressure variation or other vibration indicator. Establishing the lower bound may be achieved through simulation with the system or through an initial sampling period of pump operation. During this time, random perturbations through a subset of the pumps may be utilized to disrupt timing or phase of the subset. Thus, system vibration may randomly increase or decrease upon each perturbation. Regardless, with a sufficient number of sampled perturbations, the lower bound may be established. Therefore, actual controlled system operations may proceed, again employing random perturbations until operation of the system close to the known lower bound is substantially attained.

Method and system for minimizing vibration in a multi-pump arrangement

A method for monitoring performance of an electric submersible pump. The method includes receiving data indicating a plurality of observable parameters from one or more sensors, generating a reduced set of components representative of at least some of the observable parameters and the reduced set having a dimensionality less than the plurality of observable parameters, identifying one or more components of the reduced set that captures a total variance of the plurality of observable parameters above a predetermined threshold, constructing at least one manifold of normal operation of the electric submersible pump in a reduced component space, receiving additional data from the sensors, transforming the additional data into the identified components establishing an electric submersible pump performance, and detecting whether a deviation of the electric submersible pump performance from a normal mode of operation of the electric submersible pump exceeds a predetermined threshold.

Methods and systems are provided for controlling operational parameters of a COcompression surface facility or pipeline in order to maintain a COstream having impurities flowing in the pipeline in a liquid or supercritical phase. Sensors may be provided to sense whether the flow is single-phase or two-phase flow, and feedback provided to adjust the pressure and/or temperature at the pipeline inlet. The system is preferably optimized to limit power consumption and/or cost.

Method for active cooling of downhole tools using the vapor compression cycle

A zero-emissions power plant receives natural gas from wells at elevated pressure and temperature. Gas is expanded through one or more turbo-expanders, preferably reformed, and sent to a fuel cell where electricity, heat, carbon-dioxide, and water are generated. The carbon-dioxide is compressed by at least one compressor and piped downhole for sequestration. The turbo-expanders have shafts which preferably share the shafts of the compressors. Thus, energy given up by the natural gas in the turbo-expanders is used to run compressors which compress carbon dioxide for downhole sequestration. In one embodiment, the natural gas is applied to heat exchangers in order to generate a stream of liquid natural gas. The remainder of the gas is expanded through the turbo-expanders and processed in the reformer prior to being sent to the fuel cell. A shifter may be used between the reformer and fuel cell. A solid oxide fuel cell is preferred.
