The technology provides for a pair of earbuds. For instance, a first earbud and a second earbud may each include one or more sensors. The pair of earbuds may further include one or more processors configured to receive one or more first sensor signals from a first sensor in the first earbud and one or more second sensor signals from a second sensor in the second earbud. The one or more processors may compare the first sensor signals with the second sensor signals. Based on the comparison, the one or more processors may detect whether the first earbud and the second earbud are being worn by different users. Based on detecting that the first earbud and the second earbud are being worn by different users, the one or more processors may control the first earbud and the second earbud to use a shared mode.

Systems and methods are provided for operating a pair of earbuds based whether the earbuds are being worn by the same user or different users. In this regard, one or more processors may determine, based on sensor signals from the pair of earbuds, whether the pair of earbuds are being worn by a same user or different users. Based on determining that the pair of earbuds are being worn by the same user, the pair of earbuds may be operated in a first mode so that one or more functions are controlled based on a first set of input settings. Based on determining that the pair of earbuds are being worn by different users, the pair of earbuds may be operated in a second mode so that the one or more functions of the pair of earbuds are controlled based on a second set of input settings.

A headset for experiencing an augmented and/or a virtual reality environment may include a housing defining an interior cavity, with optical components received in the interior cavity of the housing. A front face may be rotatably coupled to a front portion of the housing to selectively enclose the interior of the housing. A computing device including a display may be received in a slot defined between the front portion of the housing and the front face. A face pad may be removably coupled to the housing, opposite the front face, so as to enclose the optical components in the housing. A user may view an augmented/virtual reality environment displayed on the display through the optical components received in the housing. An adjustable head strap assembly may adjustably position the headset on the head of the user.
