A method includes obtaining behavioral source code defining logic to be performed using at least one logic device and constraints identifying data movements associated with execution of the logic. The at least one logic device contains multiple components that support at least one of: internal data movements within the at least one logic device and external data movements external to the logic device as defined by the behavioral source code and the constraints. The constraints identify characteristics of at least one of: the internal data movements and the external data movements. The method also includes automatically designing one or more data movers for use within the at least one logic device, where the one or more data movers are configured to perform at least one of the internal and external data movements in accordance with the characteristics.

Automated design of behavioral-based data movers for field programmable gate arrays or other logic devices

A method is provided for simulating a program executable by a processor and a circuit design configured to communicate with the processor. A processor on a programmable IC is configured to execute the program. Programmable resources on the programmable IC are configured to implement a plurality of interface circuits. Each of the interface circuits is configured to communicate data between the processor and a simulation environment using a respective communication protocol. The interface circuits that uses a communication protocol used by the circuit design is enabled and other ones of the interface circuits are disabled. The circuit design is simulated in a simulation environment coupled to the programmable IC. During the simulating, the program is executed on the processor and data is communicated between the processor and the computing platform using the determined one of the plurality of interface circuits.

Simulation of system designs

An integrated circuit can include a processor system configured to execute program code. The processor system can be hard-wired and include a processor hardware resource. The IC also can include a programmable circuitry configurable to implement different physical circuits. The programmable circuitry can be coupled to the processor system. The programmable circuitry can be configurable to share usage of the processor hardware resource of the processor system. The processor system further can control aspects of the programmable circuitry such as power on and/or off and also configuration of the programmable circuitry to implement one or more different physical circuits therein.

A method and system may be implemented, according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, to permit transformation of software to use conditional execution instructions. According to the preferred embodiment, a system and method is provided to transform machine instructions (for example, machine instructions generated by a source code compiler) to make use of the conditional execution features of a processor. The preferred embodiment thus reduces code size and better utilizes the instruction pipeline and cache.

A method for memory reclamation is disclosed that includes marking a memory object when an attempt to alter a reference to the memory object is detected by a software write barrier. Marking be by using representations ('black,' 'white', &#x201c;gray&#x201d;) stored as part of a garbage collection information data structure associated with each memory object. Initially, all allocated memory objects are marked white. Objects are then processed such that objects referenced by pointers are marked gray. Each object marked gray is then processed to determine objects referenced by pointers in it, and such objects are marked gray. When all objects referenced by pointers in the selected gray objected have been processed, the selected gray object is marked black. When all processing has been completed, objects still marked white may be reclaimed. Also described is a garbage collector which runs as a task concurrently with other tasks. A priority of the garbage collector may be increased to prevent interruption during certain parts of the garbage collection procedure.
