A lighting controller for controlling illumination emitted by one or more luminaires to accompany a video game. When a first event occurs during gameplay, the controller receives an indication of an identified type of the first event from amongst a set of predefined event types, and based on this controls the illumination to produce a first lighting effect to accompany the first event during the gameplay phase. When a second event of the same type occurs in a non-gameplay phase of the video game, the controller receives an indication of this also. Based on identifying that the events are the same type, but that the video game is in the non-gameplay phase rather than the gameplay phase, the controller controls the illumination to produce a second lighting effect to accompany the occurrence of the second event during the non-gameplay phase, this effect being visibly distinct from the first lighting effect.

A lighting system comprises at least one luminaire arranged to illuminate an area shared by a plurality of users. From at least one of the users, at least one level adjustment instruction is received, denoting an illumination level instructed by that user for the shared area. When operating in a manual control mode for the shared area, the at least one luminaire is controlled to emit illumination at the illumination level denoted by the most recently received of the level adjustment instruction(s). Methods and apparatus for information management and control of outdoor lighting networks

A lighting system comprising multiple illumination sources is operable to vary a first and second light attribute over an array of locations. A user selects a first layer comprising an image having different values of the first attribute at different positions within the image, and at least one further layer representing motion. The first attribute at different locations in the array is mapped to the values of the first attribute at different positions in the first layer image, and the second attribute is varied based on the further layer so as to create an appearance of motion.
