The present invention relates to a process for removing hydrocarbons comprising the steps of: (A) passing a stream of a solution into a separator wherein a liquid phase comprising polymer and a vapor phase coexist; (B) withdrawing a vapor stream and a concentrated solution stream from the separator; (C) passing at least a part of the vapour stream into a first fractionator; (D) withdrawing a first overhead stream and a first bottom stream from the first fractionator; (E) passing the first bottom stream to a second fractionator; (F) withdrawing a second overhead stream and a second bottom stream from the second fractionator; characterized in that at least a part of the second overhead stream is withdrawn as a purge stream.

Method of recovering olefins in a solution polymerization process

The present invention deals with a process for polymerising olefins in a solution and withdrawing a stream of the solution from the polymerisation reactor and passing it to a sequence of heating steps. The heated solution is passed to a separation step, which is conducted at a pressure of no more than 15 bar and in which separation step a liquid phase comprising the polymer and a vapour phase coexist. A vapour stream and a concentrated solution stream comprising the polymer are withdrawn from the separation step. At least a part of the vapour stream is passed to the first polymerisation reactor, to the second polymerisation reactor or to both.

Process and apparatus for in-line blending of polymers

A process for producing a polymer composition comprising the steps (A) to (M) as recited herein, involving the polymerization, in a polymerization reactor of a first polymer, a first stream thereof being passed into a first separator wherein a first liquid phase comprising the polymer and a first vapor phase coexist; withdrawing a first vapor stream and a first concentrated solution stream comprising the polymer from the first separator, passing at least a part of the first vapor stream to a first fractionator; withdrawing a first overhead stream and a first bottom stream from the first fractionator; recovering at least a part of the first overhead stream as a first recycle stream and passing it to the polymerization reactor; passing the first concentrated solution stream from the first separator to a second separator, wherein a second liquid phase comprising the polymer and a second vapor phase coexist; passing at least a part of the second vapor stream to a second fractionator; withdrawing a second overhead stream and a second bottom stream from the second fractionator; recovering at least a part of the second overhead stream as a second recycle stream and passing it to the polymerization reactor; wherein the mass flow rate of the first recycle stream is at least 80% of the mass flow rate of the first vapor stream and the mass flow rate of the second recycle stream is at least 70% of the mass flow rate of the second vapor stream.

Process for recovering hydrocarbons in a solution polymerisation process

A process for withdrawing polyolefins from a reactor includes: continuously withdrawing a liquid solution stream from a solution polymerization reactor and passing the liquid solution stream into a low pressure separator; withdrawing a first vapour stream and a first liquid stream from the separator and passing the first vapour stream into a washing column; withdrawing a second vapour stream from the washing column and feeding it via a condenser line to a condenser; cooling the second vapour stream in the condenser so that part of the second vapour stream condenses, producing a condensed second vapour stream and an uncondensed second vapour stream; passing the condensed second vapour stream to an upper part of the washing column via a reflux line; withdrawing a second liquid stream from the washing column and passing at least part of the second liquid stream to the separator via a recycling line; and recovering heat.

Process for withdrawing polyolefins

An in-line blending process for polymers comprising: (a) providing two or more reactor-low pressure separator units () in parallel configuration, each reactor-low pressure separator unit comprising one reactor () fluidly connected to one low pressure separator () downstream and further a recycling line () connecting the low pressure separator () back to the corresponding reactor (); (b) polymerizing olefin monomers having two or more carbon atoms in each of the reactors () in solution polymerisation; (c) forming an unreduced reactor effluents stream including a homogenous fluid phase polymer-monomer-solvent mixture in each of the reactors (), (d) passing the unreduced reactor effluents streams from each of the reactors () through the corresponding low pressure separators (), whereby the temperature and pressure of the low pressure separators () is adjusted such that a liquid phase and a vapour phase are obtained, whereby yielding a polymer-enriched liquid phase and a polymer-lean vapour phase, and (e) separating the polymer-lean vapour phase from the polymer-enriched liquid phase in each of the low-pressure separators () to form separated polymer-lean vapour streams and separated polymer-enriched liquid streams; (f) combining the polymer-enriched liquid streams from step (e) in a further low-pressure separator and/or a mixer () to produce a combined polymer-enriched liquid stream (); (g) reintroducing the polymer-lean vapour streams from step (e) via recycling lines () into the corresponding reactors ().

In-line blending process

The present invention is directed to a process for separating hydrocarbons from a solution comprising a polymer. The process comprises the steps of: (A) withdrawing a solution stream comprising the polymer from a first vessel; (B) passing the solution stream into a flash vessel; (C) spraying the solution stream into droplets in the first flash vessel thereby establishing a stream of droplets within the flash vessel. The solution forms a downwards falling film within the flash vessel.

Process for separating hydrocarbons from polymer

The present invention concerns a process and an apparatus for continuous polymerisation of olefin monomers. In particular, the present invention concerns a process and an apparatus for continuous polymerisation olefin monomers like ethylene and other monomers, wherein an olefin monomer is polymerised in slurry phase in an inert hydrocarbon diluent in at least one loop reactor. According to the invention, a polymer slurry is continuously withdrawn from the loop reactor and concentrated. The concentrated slurry is conducted to a flash unit in order to remove the remaining fluid phase, and gas obtained is compressed in a flash gas compressor before it is being fed to a distillation section. By means of the present invention it is possible reduce the size of the flash gas compressor and the capacity of the distillation sections. This significantly reduces investment cost for a continuously operated polymerization apparatus.

Process and apparatus for producing olefin polymers

The present invention concerns a process and an apparatus for continuous polymerisation of olefin monomers in a cascade of polymerisation reactors. According to the process, an olefin monomer is polymerised first in slurry phase in an inert hydrocarbon diluent in at least one loop reactor and then, subsequently, in gas phase in at least one gas phase reactor. According to the invention, a polymer slurry is continuously withdrawn from the loop reactor and optionally concentrated. The concentrated slurry is conducted to a high pressure flash unit in order to remove the remaining fluid phase, and fed to the gas phase reactor. With the process described in this invention, it is possible to produce bimodal polyethylene with good properties. The operation of the process is stable because of the truly continuous operation.
