A digital image sequence with multiple image frames can be enhanced. An appearance graph can be determined from the digital image sequence. The appearance graph includes prime layer nodes. Each prime layer node can represent a distinctive visual style. A prime layer image sequence can be computed for each prime layer node that matches the visual style represented by the prime layer node. An enhanced image sequence can be generated by blending at least two prime layer image sequences as defined by the appearance graph.

Enhancing image data with appearance controls

Methods and systems for digitally enhancing the characteristics of an image sequence including video and motion picture images are provided. Highly accurate motion information represented by trajectories are generated through analyzing available image frames in the image sequence. Some embodiments of the present invention relate to generating multiple layer trajectories from an image sequence. Certain aspects may be applicable to the enhancement of three-dimensional (3D) image sequences including 3D video and 3D motion pictures.

Enhancing motion pictures with accurate motion information

Methods and systems for reducing or eliminating perceived ghosting in stereoscopic three-dimensional (3D) image display are described. A stereoscopic image that includes image content can be received. Display system parameters can be received. A local region of the stereoscopic image can be identified using the image content. The local region can include ghosting. Psychovisual factors can be selected using the image content. A modified stereoscopic image can be generated from the stereoscopic image by reducing or eliminating the ghosting of the local region using the psychovisual factors and the display system parameters. The modified stereoscopic image can be outputted for display.

Methods and systems for reducing or eliminating perceived ghosting in displayed stereoscopic images

The present invention discloses methods of digitally converting 2D motion pictures or any other 2D image sequences to stereoscopic 3D image data for 3D exhibition. In one embodiment, various types of Image data cues can be collected from 2D source images by various methods and then used for producing two distinct stereoscopic 3D views. Embodiments of the disclosed methods can be implemented within a highly efficient system comprising both software and computing hardware. The architectural model of some embodiments of the system is equally applicable to a wide range of conversion, re-mastering and visual enhancement applications for motion pictures and other image sequences, including converting a 2D motion picture or a 2D image sequence to 3D, re-mastering a motion picture or a video sequence to a different frame rate, enhancing the quality of a motion picture or other image sequences, or other conversions which facilitate further improvement in visual image quality within a projector to produce the enhanced images.

Methods and systems for converting 2D motion pictures for stereoscopic 3D exhibition

The present invention relates generally to methods and systems for the production of 3D motion picture subtitles adapted to image content for improved viewer experience. Some embodiments of the present invention relate to positioning subtitles at variable, scene-dependent depth. Certain aspects of the present invention may be applicable to general 3D display applications and/or digital projection of 3D motion pictures.

Methods and systems for presenting three-dimensional motion pictures with content adaptive information

The present invention relates to methods and systems for the exhibition of a motion picture with enhanced perceived resolution and visual quality. The enhancement of perceived resolution is achieved both spatially and temporally. Spatial resolution enhancement creates image details using both temporal-based methods and learning-based methods. Temporal resolution enhancement creates synthesized new image frames that enable a motion picture to be displayed at a higher frame rate. The digitally enhanced motion picture is to be exhibited using a projection system or a display device that supports a higher frame rate and/or a higher display resolution than what is required for the original motion picture.

Methods and systems for digitally re-mastering of 2D and 3D motion pictures for exhibition with enhanced visual quality

Certain embodiments relate to processing images by creating scale space images from an image and using them to identify boundaries of objects in the image. The scale space images can have varying levels of detail. They are used to determine a potential map, which represents a likelihood for pixels to be within or outside a boundary of an object. A label estimating an object boundary can be generated and used to identify pixels that potentially may be within the boundary. An image with object boundaries identified can be further processed before exhibition. For example, the images may be two-dimensional images of a motion picture. Object boundaries can be identified and the two-dimensional (2D) images can be processed using the identified object boundaries and converted to three-dimensional (3D) images for exhibition.

Devices and methods for processing images using scale space

The invention efficiently enhances image resolution and quality through a temporal filtering process and achieves high performance using automated or interactive statistical quality evaluation methods. A system specially designed for efficient temporal computing with a parallel and distributed computing configuration equipped with a variety of optimization schemes is also disclosed. The performance of the process and the system is optimized through an intelligent controller and is scalable to support any throughput requirements demanded for concurrent motion picture releases in the original format as well as in any alternative format.

A projection system having a controller and a plurality of reflective SLMs operatively coupled to the controller to receive image data from the controller. The reflective SLMs arc aligned in series to receive light form a light source and to reflect imaging light correlated to the image data.

One of the described techniques is designed primarily (although not necessarily exclusively) for computational efficiency, while the other sacrifices some computational efficiency for higher quality of output images.
