Optical coherence tomography (herein 'OCT') based analyte monitoring systems are disclosed. In one aspect, techniques are disclosed that can identify fluid flow in vivo (e.g., blood flow), which can act as a metric for gauging the extent of blood perfusion in tissue. For instance, if OCT is to be used to estimate the level of an analyte (e.g., glucose) in tissue, a measure of the extent of blood flow can potentially indicate the presence of an analyte correlating region, which would be suitable for analyte level estimation with OCT. Another aspect is related to systems and methods for scanning multiple regions. An optical beam is moved across the surface of the tissue in two distinct manners. The first can be a coarse scan, moving the beam to provide distinct scanning positions on the skin. The second can be a fine scan where the beam is applied for more detailed analysis.

Flowometry in optical coherence tomography for analyte level estimation

A method of controlling ability of a client device to access media content available from a server device on a network is provided. The method includes the steps of receiving with the server device a request from the client device via the network for media content and determining with the server device a type of the client device and a type of the media content. Thereafter, a step of applying a policy stored in software form in the server device for determining actions allowable for the client device with respect to the media content is performed. After the applying step, access of the media content is provided to the client device only to an extent defined and permitted by the policy. A server device for functioning as a Digital Media Server (DMS) on a Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) network is also disclosed.

An apparatus, for use in a receiver configured to receive electronic signals, for identifying digital signals that are available for reception, includes a timing recovery device configured to receive an incoming signal, related to a transmitted signal, the incoming signal having a first symbol rate, and to re-sample the incoming signal to provide a second symbol rate, and an analyzer that is in communication with the timing recovery device and that is configured to make a determination as to whether a difference between the second symbol rate and a third symbol rate of a transmitter providing the transmitted signal is within an acceptable tolerance and to use the determination in an analysis of whether the transmitted signal is available for reception.

Rapid channel signal identification

A method and device prevent a set-top terminal from accepting a download of new programming or data over a cable network when the download would be redundant of information already possessed by the set-top terminal or would cause an inconvenience to subscribers. When the set-top terminal is signaled that a new download is being offered, the set-top terminal checks to see if the download in fact contains a newer version of data or programming than is currently resident in the set-top terminal. The set-top terminal also checks whether criteria for accepting a download are met. The criteria are conditions that tend to indicate that an interruption of service to accept a download would not inconvenience the subscriber at that time. When the criteria are met, the download is accepted. Otherwise, the download is not accepted or is not accepted until the criteria are satisfied. Similar criteria govern the termination of the older, executing programming and the execution of the newer, downloaded programming to, again, prevent unwarranted disruptions in service.

A method for selecting an antenna direction setting for optimum signal reception prior to channel equalization provides a set of metrics, referred to as channel quality metrics (CQM), that characterize the quality of the received signal for a given antenna setting and a generic algorithm that uses these metrics to select the antenna setting for an optimum reception. This invention utilizes five main CQMs: a Signal Strength Metric (SSM), a minimum mean squared error of a decision feedback equalizer (MMSE (DFE)) channel quality metric, a MMSE for a linear equalizer (MMSE(LE)) channel quality metric, a Spectral Flatness Metric (SFM) and an interference degradation metric (IDM).
