Segmented conductive coating for a luminescent display device

A color cathode-ray tube having an evacuated envelope with an electron gun therein for generating at least one electron beam is disclosed. The envelope further includes a faceplate panel having a luminescent screen with phosphor lines on an interior surface thereof. A tensioned focus mask, having a plurality of spaced-apart strands, is located adjacent to an effective picture area of the screen. The spacing between the strands defines a plurality of slots substantially parallel to the phosphor lines on the screen. Each of the strands has a substantially continuous insulating material layer formed on a screen-facing side thereof. A plurality of cross-wires are oriented substantially perpendicular to the plurality of strands and are bonded thereto by the insulating material layer. The plurality of cross-wires are bonded to busbars (located at opposite ends of the focus mask) with a resistive coating that has adhesive properties. The resistive coating is applied over and between each of the second conductive strands to bond them to the busbars and also to electrically isolate them from one another. A conductor is placed along a portion of at least one busbar to evenly distribute voltage to each strand through the resistive coating. The resistive coating is a composite material comprising an electrical conductor and an oxide mixed with at least one silicate glass.

Resistive coating for a tensioned focus mask CRT

A color cathode-ray tube has an evacuated envelope with an electron gun therein for generating an electron beam. The envelope further includes a faceplate panel having a luminescent screen with phosphor elements on an interior surface thereof. A focus mask, having a plurality of spaced-apart first conductive strands, is located adjacent to an effective picture area of the screen. The spacing between the first conductive strands defines a plurality of apertures substantially parallel to the phosphor elements on the screen. Each of the first conductive strands has a substantially continuous insulating material layer formed on a screen-facing side thereof. A plurality of second conductive wires are oriented substantially perpendicular to the plurality of first conductive strands and are bonded thereto by the insulating material layer. The insulating material layer is partially or slightly conductive to an extent sufficient to prevent an accumulation of a significant electrical charge.

Cathode-ray tube having a focus mask using partially conductive insulators

A color cathode-ray tube (CRT) having an evacuated envelope with an electron gun therein for generating at least one electron beam is disclosed. The envelope further includes a faceplate panel having a luminescent screen with phosphor lines on an interior surface thereof. A tension focus mask, having a plurality of spaced-apart first electrodes, is located adjacent to an effective picture area of the screen. The plurality of spaced-apart first electrodes has a screen-facing side having a predetermined width and a relatively wider electron-gun-facing side. Each side forming sharp corner edges extending along the length of each first electrodes. A substantially continuous insulating material is deposited on the screen-facing side and on the corners of the first electrodes to shield the sharp corner edges of the first electrodes. A plurality of second electrodes are oriented substantially perpendicular to the plurality of first electrodes and are bonded thereto by the insulating material layer.

Tension focus mask for a cathode-ray tube (CRT)

A system and method for monitoring the spot-knocking of electron tubes includes individually identifying each tube carrying hanger and each cart which applies a spot-knocking voltage to the tubes. The hangers and tubes sequentially engage a series of anode bus bar segments and the spot-knocking discharges are counted. The counts for each hanger and for each tube are averaged and compared with stored averages to identify faulty tubes, spot-knocking equipment and carts.

System and method for monitoring spot-knocking of CRTs

The novel CRT has an electron gun mount assembly therein which is similar in construction to prior CRT's. The electron gun mount assembly includes a cathode for generating at least one electron beam and a plurality of successively spaced electrodes including a screen grid electrode, a focusing electrode and an anode electrode secured to one major surface of at least two longitudinally extending insulating support beads. A first gap of predetermined width extends between the anode electrode and one end of the focusing electrode. A second gap of predetermined width extends between the opposite end of the focusing electrode and the screen grid electrode. An opposite major surface of each of the support beads faces outwardly and has thereon an electrically-conducting coating having a longitudinal dimension, d. Suitable voltages are applied to the electrodes to generate electrical activity. The coating on each of the beads is spaced a distance 1.25.times.d from the end of the focusing electrode adjacent to the second gap.
