An apparatus for developing a latent image recorded on an imaging surface, including a housing defining a reservoir storing a supply of developer material including toner. A mag roll loads a toner layer onto a region of said outer surface of said donor member. A donor member, spaced from the imaging surface, moves toner on an outer surface of said donor member to a development zone opposed from the imaging surface. A shield, adjacent to said donor member and said development zone, said shield being electrical biased to generate a toner cloud between said shield and said donor member which said toner cloud releases to the development zone to develop the latent image, in response to the movement of toner on the outer surface of said donor member.

Hybrid scavengeless development system

A noncontact seal for a donor roll in an electrophotographic printing machine. The seal is fixed in the developer housing and envelopes each end of the donor roll but does not contact the donor roll. The small space does not allow a positive airflow sufficient to cause toner particles to be emited from the developer housing so as to contaminate the other portions of the printing machine. The seal is made of a low friction material such as DELRIN.RTM. so that toner particles do not stick to the seal and cause a buildup that would be detrimental to the photoreceptive member.

Non-contacting hybrid jumping developer dirt emission baffle seal

A sensing system is disclosed for detecting a full condition within a waste developer system, the sensing system including: a developer waste bottle for receiving and holding waste developer material including toner and carrier deposited therein from the developer system, the developer waste bottle having a translucent, removable viewing window for optical viewing the level of developer material therein, the viewing window comprises a sensing portion in fluid communication with the developer waste bottle, the sensing portion adapted to have developer material flow therein when the magnetic material in the toner waste bottle reaches the predetermined level. A sensor assembly is mounted exterior to the developer waste bottle and in optical communication with the viewing window, the sensor being responsive to the level magnetic material in the developer waste bottle when the magnetic material in the toner waste bottle reaches the predetermined level The sensing portion defines a cavity therein, the cavity being partly enclosed by a protective baffle for preventing airborne toner from depositing in the cavity. The reusable waste bottle is black in color while the removable window is translucent, permitting the use of an optical sensor for determining when the waste has reached the level of the window. Because the bottle is black, it can be easily refurbished by simply removing the window and either cleaning the window or installing a new one.

Developer level detection system

A development system for a reproduction machine includes a pair of augers which mix and transfer the developer mixture to a magnetic roll brush system. A supply auger having a length at least as great as said magnetic brush roll is positioned along a horizontal plane and adapted to transport developer material in a direction so as to supply said material to said magnetic brush roll. The auger has a first portion thereof having an irregular blade edge and wedge shaped paddles to eliminate auger mark print defects.

A developer unit adapted to develop with marking particles a latent image. The developer unit includes a housing and a mover for moving the marking particles in a recirculating path within the housing. The developer unit further includes a fibrous element located adjacent the recirculating path to trap contaminants recirculated by the mover with the marking particles.

Filament fiber development traps

A high velocity air and stationary disturber cleaner for cleaning surfaces by drawing air under flexible film seals. A vacuum enclosed in a housing provides the suction force to draw the air under the seal, tangent to the surface to be cleaned, thus removing adhered particles. Disturbers are placed on the surface of the seals in contact with the surface to be cleaned to loosen particles to be removed. The brush density, the fiber length and a plastic film incorporated into the brush design are all ways to limit the amount of air flow through the bulk of the brushes for better cleaning efficiency.

High velocity air and stationary disturber cleaner

An apparatus for detoning a cleaner brush by providing multiple opportunities for fiber detoning to take place. A screen detoning element located in the cleaner housing causes multiple interferences with the brush fibers bringing about a high degree of detoning of the cleaner brush.

Xerographic brush cleaner detoner

A detoning cleaner subsystem for a xerographic machine includes a housing having a longitudinal opening extending on one side thereof and a longitudinally extending rotating brush located therein which cleans toner particles from a moving photoreceptor surface moving past the opening. A longitudinally extending air manifold is located within the housing substantially adjacent the longitudinal opening, near one of first and second air gaps located between the photoreceptor surface and the manifold. The air manifold defines an air channel extending longitudinally substantially the length of the brush. The air channel is in communication with the longitudinal opening. A vacuum source in communication with the air channel provides a longitudinal air flow therethrough for maintaining the dispersed particles aloft and removing the particles. A flicker bar is preferably located between the brush and the air manifold to remove toner accumulation from the brush.

High efficiency low power air manifold for cleaner subsystems

An apparatus in which an electrostatic latent image recorded on a photoconductive member is developed with toner. A donor roll, spaced from the photoconductive member, transports toner to a development zone adjacent the photoconductive member. An electrode member is positioned in the development zone between the photoconductive member and the donor roll. A magnetic roll transports carrier granules and toner particles to a loading zone adjacent the donor roll. In the loading zone, toner particles are attracted from the magnetic roll to the donor roll. A sealing member has a magnetic field induced therein by the magnet in the magnetic roll. The sealing member attracts carrier granules thereto preventing the carrier granules for being transported to the donor roll.

Carrier bead seal

A cleaning brush electrically biased with an alternating current removes discharged particles from an imaging surface. The particles on the imaging surface are discharged by a corona generating device. A second cleaning device including an insulative brush, a conductive brush or a blade, located upstream of the first mentioned brush, in the direction of movement of the imaging surface, further removes redeposited particles therefrom.

Electrostatic brush cleaner with a secondary cleaner

A cleaner brush in which air flow passes through the first node of the standing wave of brush fibers to facilitate removal of particles therefrom. A flexible seal maximizes the air flow through the brush fibers.

Air detoned cleaner brush

In an electrostatograhic imaging device of the type forming a multilevel electrostatic latent image on a surface of the imaging member, and developing the multilevel electrostatic latent image with at least two types of toner, and a brush cleaner for removal of toner and debris remaining after transfer of the image to another surface, the brush is maintained in a condition loaded with a first toner type providing abrasive characteristics at the fibers of the brush, for abrading the photoreceptor for removal of toner of said second type.
