A cable management system for managing cables associated with an array of solar modules includes a body having an interior surface extending vertically, a lower flange extending directly from the interior surface of the body, and a cable management flange extending directly from the interior surface of the body above the lower flange. The cable management flange and the lower flange define a cable cavity therebetween for retaining at least one cable. Distal ends of the lower flange and the cable management flange define an opening for inserting the at least one cable into the cable cavity. The cable management flange is arranged to engage the at least one cable and secure the at least one cable in the cable cavity. The cable management flange is flexible to accept and retain the at least one cable.

A solar module system includes a frame, a microinverter, and an adapter assembly for connecting the microinverter to the frame. The frame includes a body, a mounting flange extending from a bottom of the body at an edge, and a cable management flange extending from an interior surface of the body. The cable management flange and the mounting flange define a cable cavity therebetween for retaining at least one cable. The adapter assembly includes an adapter including a microinverter attachment projection coupled to the microinverter, a frame attachment extension, and a side wall extending therebetween.

An insertion tool for use with a cable management cavity includes a grip for a user to grasp the insertion tool. The grip has a longitudinal axis. The insertion tool also includes an insertion flange extending from the grip. The insertion flange includes a first end attached to the grip and a second end shaped to contact a cable. The insertion flange is sized to fit within the cable management cavity and insert the cable into the cable management cavity to a desired depth. The insertion flange has a length defined between the first end and the second end in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The length is selected to allow the insertion flange to insert the cable into the cable management cavity to the desired depth.

A module frame includes a body having an interior surface, a lower flange extending from the interior surface of the body, and a cable management flange extending from the interior surface of the body. The lower flange and the cable management flange each include a distal end. The cable management flange and the lower flange define a cable cavity therebetween for retaining at least one cable. The distal ends of the lower flange and the cable management flange define an opening for inserting the cable into the cable cavity. The cable management flange is arranged to engage the cable and secure the cable in the cable cavity.

A solar array includes a solar module and a support structure for the solar module. The support structure includes a support member. The solar module is mounted on the support structure such that the solar module is positioned at least partially above the support member. The solar array also includes a wire receiver for securing wires to the solar module or the support member. The wire receiver includes a wire insert slot sized for receiving wires, a wire transition slot connected to the wire insert slot, and a catch adapted to inhibit movement of the wires. The wire insert slot and the wire transition slot are sized and arranged for the wires to be inserted into the wire insert slot and positioned around the catch.

A kit for flashing a mount of a photovoltaic assembly on a surface includes a flashing assembly. The flashing assembly includes flashing that extends across an interface of the mount and the surface when the mount is attached to the surface. The flashing includes a bottom surface and a top surface. The flashing assembly also includes tape attached to the bottom surface of the flashing. The tape includes a first attachment area and a second attachment area. The flashing assembly has a first configuration in which the first attachment area is attached to the flashing and the second attachment area is unattached, and a second configuration in which the first attachment area is attached to the flashing and the second attachment area is attached to the surface. The tape is movable with the flashing as an assembly when the flashing assembly is in the first configuration. The first attachment area and the second attachment area positioned on opposite sides of the tape such that the tape extends between the surface and the bottom surface of the flashing when the tape is in the second configuration. The kit also includes a container defining an interior space to receive the flashing assembly.

Systems and methods for mounting roof-mounted photovoltaic arrays including flashing and tape

A solar array is mounted on a surface of a structure, the surface being generally planar. The solar array comprises a solar module and a support that supports the solar module a distance above the surface. The support defines a channel to receive the solar module. A locking mechanism engages the support to secure the solar module to the support, wherein the solar module extends between the support and the locking mechanism and into the channel such that the solar module is allowed to move relative to the support in a first plane generally parallel to the surface when the solar module is secured to the support. The locking mechanism and the support inhibit movement of the solar module in a second plane generally perpendicular to the surface when the solar module is secured to the support.

A system for flashing a mount of a photovoltaic assembly on a surface includes a flashing with a lower surface and an upper surface. The flashing defines an opening to receive a fastener for securing the mount to the surface. The system also includes a seal extending around the fastener when the fastener is positioned in the opening. The seal provides a first barrier to inhibit water intrusion through the opening. The system further includes a pad attached to one of the lower surface and the upper surface, wherein the pad provides a second barrier to inhibit water intrusion through an interface of the flashing and the surface.

The tape is movable with the flashing as an assembly when the flashing assembly is in the first configuration.

A system for flashing a mount of a photovoltaic assembly on a surface includes a flashing including a lower surface and an upper surface. The flashing defines an opening to receive a fastener for securing the mount to the surface. The system also includes a first pad positioned along and attached to the lower surface and a second pad positioned along and attached to the upper surface. The first pad and the second pad extend across the opening. The first pad and the second pad include an adhesive and form a water resistant seal for the opening.

A solar module for installation on a structure includes a laminate for converting solar energy into electricity. The solar module also includes a mount releasably connected to the laminate for mounting the solar module on a surface of the structure. The mount includes openings to receive fasteners for securing the mount to the surface of the structure. The solar module has a pre-mount configuration in which the mount is connected to the laminate as a single unit. The mount is sized to allow the solar module to be shipped in the pre-mount configuration.
