A multifunctional personal health monitor with an activity tracker embedded into a pet leash is provided. The energy of a pet pulling the leash cord is converted to an electrical power to run and to analyze operation of multiple biometric sensors embedded into the leash. The physical activities of the pet and its owner may be tracked. The obtain biometric information may be wirelessly transmitted for additional processing or an emergency call can be initiated. The generated by pet movement electrical power may be used to charge various external devices.

Systems, apparatuses, and methods for driving an optical source with a current source. The optical source driver has a primary control loop having a DC&#x2014;DC converter and an operational amplifier, wherein the DC&#x2014;DC converter has a power input, a power output connected to the input of the optical source, and a control input, and wherein the operational amplifier has a first input connected between the optical source and the current source, a second input, and an output connected to the control input of the DC&#x2014;DC converter, for controlling the output of the DC&#x2014;DC converter in response to a control signal at the second input. In addition, the optical source drive includes an override control loop having a power input, a power output connected to an input of the optical source, a switch between the power input and the power output, and a comparator having a first input connected between the optical source and the current source, having a second input, and having an output connected to a control input of the switch, for selectively connecting the power input to the power output when a signal between the optical source and the current source falls below a predetermined point.

The systems, components, and assemblies may also include sensors that measure both chamber temperature and ambient temperature for thermo-stabilizing a device.

Transmission systems and components utilizing thermo-stabilization and method of use therein

The present invention is directed to transmission systems, components, and assemblies including a thermoelectric assembly. The thermo-electric assembly may include a chamber and a thermo-electric device in thermal communication with the chamber, wherein the thermo-electric device forms part of a static H-bridge configuration. The assembly may also include a first temperature sensor in thermal communication with the chamber and a second temperature sensor in thermal communication with an ambient environment. A variable power supply having a power output connected to the thermo-electric device and having a control input is included, in addition to a linear driver having an output connected to the thermo-electric device. The assembly has a controller responsive to the first and second temperature sensors that controls the thermo-electric device, wherein the controller connects to the control input of the variable power supply, wherein the controller drives the thermo-electric device with the linear driver when a temperature of the chamber is within a predetermined temperature range of a temperature set point for the chamber, and wherein the controller drives the thermo-electric device with the variable power supply when the temperature of the chamber is outside the predetermined temperature range of the temperature set point for the chamber.

Transmission systems and components utilizing thermo-stabilization and methods of use therein

A handheld device for infrared reflectance measurements of samples for identification of the sample materials is a self-contained portable unit built into a handheld housing. The housing includes a window and optics on a bench adjacent the window, so that the optics will be aligned with the sample when the device is placed directly against the sample. The optics include a broad-band IR light source (ordinary lamp) shining onto an acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF), which passes narrow-band IR light with a swept frequency; a lens focussing the IR through the window onto the sample; and a reflectance detector aligned with the window of the housing to pick up reflected light. A computer, which may be mounted in the housing, compares the detected reflectance spectrum with stored sample data spectra, and identifies the material or the components of the material and their proportions. Inclusion of all the parts inside the housing allows the device to be portable; this is made possible by the alignment of the lamp, AOTF filter, lens, window, and detector, which has high optical efficiency, and by elimination of optical fibers.
