A self-closing drawer slide has a housing with a linear channel extending therein at an inner end of an outer longitudinal section. A catch is slidably mounted within the channel and has pivot pinsextending out either side thereof (only one side is shown) into corresponding slots in the sides of the channel. The catch is symmetrical about a longitudinal centre line of the housing and rocks rearward to unlock and engage a latch on an inner longitudinal section and forward to lock and release the latch. The catch is biased to slide to an inner end of the channel when the catch is unlocked and there are no external forces on the slide.

Symmetrical self-closing mechanism for a drawer slide

A low profile baseframe is used with a desk or other support to movable support a keyboard or other device. The baseframe has ball races integrally formed along each side. The ball races face one another and contain ball retainers that are sized and shaped to fit within the ball races so that rows of ballbearings in each slide are substantially vertical relative to one another. The ball retainers are made from molded plastic and are folded into a U-shape after being removed from the mold. The baseframe has a slide plate that extends between the two ball races with side edges inserted into the ball retainers. The baseframe is constructed without the use of fastening means. The ball retainers rest in the ball races and the slide plate rests in the ball retainers without welding, bolts or rivets.

A drawer slide includes a first slide channel telescopically mounted for longitudinal movement in a second slide channel. The first channel includes a cantilever spring latch which engages the second slide channel when the first slide channel is extended to a fully telescoped position associated with a fully open drawer supported by the first channel. The first slide channel further includes a longitudinally movable manual release lever, which is slidable to engage and release the spring latch and thus allow the first channel to be slidably translated into the second channel thereby allowing the attached drawer to be moved to the closed position. The first slide channel further includes a second cantilever spring latch that limits the opening movement of the first channel. Both spring members may be released by an auxiliary release lever.

A locking and release mechanism for a slide assembly comprised of multiple telescoping channel members interacting, opposing cantilever springs mounted on the telescoping slides or channel. The mechanism can be made of plastic, spring steel or other alternative materials. The mechanism can be used on ball bearing or friction telescoping drawer slide assemblies.
