A system and method for ordering healthcare services wherein a list of selectable orders for medical services for a given patient is dynamically generated based on medical information of the patient (e.g., the patient's condition or set of conditions) and presented to a user (e.g., a physician). In one aspect, a system for ordering patient specific healthcare services comprises a user interface that enables a user to input a medical condition of a patient and to select desired medical services from a list of orderable medical services presented to the user; a services database comprising a plurality of predetermined medical services that are each associated with a medical condition; and an engine for compiling the list of orderable medical services from one or more predetermined medical services in the services database that are associated with the input medical conditions of the patient. A clinical knowledge model is used by the engine to identify a medical condition that is potentially associated with a known or identified medical condition of the patient, based upon potential etiology, potential complication, clinical associations, or any combination thereof.

System and method for ordering patient specific healthcare services

A computerized integrated order entry and clinical documentation and voice recognition system enables voice responsive user entry of orders. The system includes a voice recognition unit for detecting spoken words and converting detected spoken words to data representing commands. A data processor, coupled to the voice recognition unit, processes the data representing commands provided by the voice recognition unit, to provide order and documentation related data and menu options for use by a user, by interpreting the data representing commands using an ordering and documentation application specific ontology and excluding use of other non-ordering or non-documentation application specific ontologies. The ordering application enables initiating an order for medication to be administered to a particular patient, or additional ordered services to be performed. A user interface processor, coupled to the data processor, provides data representing a display image. The display image, includes the order related data and menu options provided by the data processor and supports a user in selecting an order for medication to be administered to a particular patient.

Medical ontology based data and voice command processing system

In an embodiment of the present inventions, a work flow process may be generated by decomposing functions of a clinical information system into discrete tasks including an individual task associated with a first pre-configured executable procedure for implementing the individual task and associating a user selectable image element with the pre-configured first executable procedure used in implementing the individual task. In a currently envisioned embodiment, integratable work flow processes according to the present invention may be provided to a vertical application system. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract which will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope of meaning of the claims.

The method involves initiating generation of at least one display image in response to user command. The display image or images support the identification of an event and an associated parameter as well as the designation of a predetermined process associated with the identified event. The display image or images also support user indication of the parameter to be provided to the predetermined process in response to occurrence of the event. The predetermined process comprises a set of tasks to be performed by at least one individual to support healthcare delivery. The display image or images also support designating an executable procedure to be initiated in response to occurrence of the identified event.

System and user interface for processing healthcare related event information

A system and user interface integrates and processes event associated messages affecting healthcare delivered to a patient and supports creation, initiation and modification of currently operating workflow processes involving processing of event messages. A method for processing an event representing a change in circumstances potentially affecting healthcare delivered to a patient involves receiving a message identifying an event potentially affecting healthcare delivered to a patient. Predetermined rules are applied to interpret the identified event to determine particular tasks to be performed in response to occurrence of the identified event. The particular tasks are scheduled to be performed by at least one individual in response to the occurrence of the identified event. In addition a database containing records indicating active process instances is searched to identify active process instances of a target process to be replaced by a process comprising the particular tasks. Also a parameter associated with an event is stored at a location available for access by multiple different process task sequences.

System for processing healthcare related event information for use in scheduling performance of tasks

A method for providing a displayable task schedule of tasks to be performed on behalf of specific service tasks such as individuals by a particular worker of a plurality of workers is disclosed. In an embodiment, the method comprises receiving worker identification information; compiling a list of tasks to be performed by a worker in response to the received identification information based on a continuing role assigned to the worker and a list of service tasks; and initiating display of the compiled list of tasks.
