A position sensor system includes a magnetic source for generating a magnetic field, and a position sensor device movable relative to the magnetic source, or vice versa. The position sensor device comprises at least three magnetic sensor elements for measuring at least three magnetic field values of the magnetic field, and a processing circuit configured for determining at least two magnetic field gradients or magnetic field differences based on the at least three magnetic field values, and for deriving from the at least two magnetic field gradients or differences a first value indicative of a position of the position sensor device, and for deriving from the at least two magnetic field gradients or differences a second value indicative of integrity of the position sensor system.

Magnetic position sensor system and method

The present invention relates to a field-sensor device comprising a reference field sensor providing a reference sensor signal in response to a field, a calibrated field sensor providing a calibrated sensor signal in response to the field, a reference circuit connected to the reference field sensor and adapted to receive a reference signal, and an adjustable circuit connected to the calibrated field sensor and adapted to receive a calibrated signal. When the adjustable circuit is adjusted with the calibrated signal, said calibrated signal being different from the reference signal, the calibrated field sensor provides a calibrated sensor signal substantially equal to the reference sensor signal. The field sensor device is arranged to be exposed, when in a calibration mode, to a uniform calibration field and, when in operational mode, to an operational field being a field gradient.

Stray field rejection in magnetic sensors

A magnetic sensor device comprises a substrate. A first magnetic sensor, a second magnetic sensor, and one or more inductors are disposed over the substrate and are controlled by a magnetic sensor controller having a control circuit. The control circuit is adapted for controlling the first magnetic sensor to measure magnetic fields under presence of a first set of magnetic fields, and for controlling the second magnetic sensor to measure magnetic fields under presence of a second set of magnetic fields generated by the inductors. The control circuit calculates a relative sensitivity matching value that converts magnetic field values measured by the second magnetic sensor to a comparable magnetic field value measured by the first magnetic sensor or vice versa. The control circuit is further adapted for correcting a measurement by the second magnetic sensor using the relative sensitivity matching value to produce a corrected measurement, and for calculating a magnetic field gradient by combining a measurement by the first magnetic sensor with the corrected measurement.

Magnetic sensor sensitivity matching calibration

A target configured to be used with a position sensor for sensing a position of the target is described. The target includes at least one elongated conductive loop structure for allowing eddy currents to flow therein and configured to affect a magnetic field received from the position sensor in a preferred direction along the at least one elongated conductive loop structure.

Flux coupling target

An apparatus is arranged for sensing a position of a target, in particular for offset invariant sensing of the position of the target is described, as well as the respective target and the method. The apparatus comprises at least two sensor elements. At least one sensor element of the at least two sensor elements generates a magnetic field. At least one other sensor element of the at least two sensor elements receives the magnetic field and outputs at least one signal associated with the received magnetic field. The target affects a coupling of a magnetic flux of the magnetic field between the at least one sensor element generating the magnetic field and the at least one other sensor element receiving the magnetic field and wherein the target is non-rotational invariant.

Flux coupling sensor and target

An apparatus and a method for redundant measurements of a magnetic field originating from or influenced by a moveable object is described. The apparatus comprising at least one first magnetic field sensitive element measuring at least one magnetic field property of the magnetic field, wherein the at least one first magnetic field sensitive element is implemented on a first area of a semiconductor substrate, at least one second magnetic field sensitive element measuring at least one magnetic field property of the magnetic field, wherein the at least one second magnetic field sensitive element is implemented on a second area of said semiconductor substrate, and wherein the first and second areas are isolated from one another.

Magnetic sensor

A magnetic sensor device comprises a substrate, first and second magnetic sensors, and one or more inductors are disposed over the substrate and are controlled by a magnetic sensor controller having a control circuit. The control circuit controls the first magnetic sensor to measure a first magnetic field and the second magnetic sensor to measure a second magnetic field under presence of a fifth magnetic field generated by the inductors. The control circuit controls the first magnetic sensor to measure a third magnetic field and the second magnetic sensor to measure a fourth magnetic field under presence of a sixth magnetic field generated by the inductors, the fifth magnetic field and the sixth magnetic field being different. The control circuit calculates a relative sensitivity matching value converting magnetic field values measured by the second magnetic sensor to a comparable magnetic field value measured by the first magnetic sensor.

A magnetic sensor arrangement, comprising: a magnet assembly and a magnetic sensor; the magnet assembly forming a magnetic field having at least two magnetic field components with different angular periodicities at the location of the magnetic sensor and the magnetic sensor including means for sensing the different magnetic field components to produce at least a first and a second sensor element signal; and a computing element for receiving the at least first and second sensor element signals and combining them to produce a unique angular position of the magnet relative to the sensor. A method of determining a unique angular position is also provided.

Measuring an absolute angular position

A field-sensor device comprises a reference field sensor biased with a reference current. The reference field sensor provides a reference sensor signal in response to a field, and a calibrated field sensor biased with an individually adjustable current and providing a calibrated sensor signal in response to the field. A control circuit controls the adjustable current bias of the calibrated field sensor at a calibrated current different from the reference current so that the calibrated field sensor provides a calibrated sensor signal substantially equal to the reference sensor signal in response to a common field. The field sensor device is arranged to be exposed, when in a calibration mode, to a uniform calibration field and, when in operational mode, to an operational field being a field gradient.

A method of determining a position of a sensor device relative to an external magnetic field, comprises: providing currents to conductors to generate an internal magnetic field that will superimpose with the external magnetic field, measuring field components of the combined magnetic field, calculating a position based on the applied currents and/or on the measured residual magnetic field. A position sensor is provided for performing the method.
