A reactive armor for defeating threats comprises an outer shell having outer and inner surfaces, an inner reactive plate, and explosive material disposed between said inner surface and said reactive plate, wherein said reactive plate is configured to be displaced away from said inner surface upon activation of said explosive material.

Reactive protective armor

A flexible protection element for reactive protection against shaped charge warheads and kinetic energy projectiles comprises a formable doughy mixture of a powder dispersed within a matrix of plastic explosive and a binder.

Reactive armour

The present invention provides an explosive composition of substantially reduced sensitivity and low flammability, being definable as an extremely insensitive detonating substance (EIDS) according to UN Regulations for the Transport of Dangerous Goods and comprising one or more explosive material 42-58% vol., one or more fire retardant material 15-26% vol. and a binder 20-36% vol.

A reactive armor module for protecting a target from an incoming projectile, and comprising at least one armor cassette formed of a front base plate and a rear base plate sandwiching between them at least one layer of energetic material, the front base plate and the rear base plate being adapted, upon impact of the projectile with the energetic material, to be propelled in opposite directions; the armor module further comprising at least one non-energetic auxiliary plate spaced from the armor cassette and positioned essentially along the expected trajectory of either the front or the rear base plate, such that when propelled, the velocity of a base plate facing the auxiliary plate is reduced upon collision with the auxiliary plate.

Armor module

An armor module and an explosive material therefore, which explosive material is normally retained at a less sensitive position, and upon demand it is modified into a more sensitive position, where its initiation ability is upgraded and wherein the modification is carried out by heating the explosive material.

Explosive material sensitivity control

An armor module having a rigid casing having a front face, a top face and a bottom face, and a plurality of multi-layer planner cassettes fixedly mounted within the casing. Each cassette has a top base plate and a bottom base plate, sandwiching between them at least a one other layer. The top base plate of an uppermost cassette constitutes the top face of the casing, and a bottom base plate of a lowermost cassette constitutes the bottom face of the casing.

The present invention provides elements for making a protective reactive armor to be fitted on the outside of an enclosure liable to be exposed to attack by shaped-charge warheads and other threats, such as kinetic energy projectiles and fragments, to thereby enhance survivability of the enclosure and its contents. The invention further provides a non-explosive energetic material useful for such reactive armor elements.

Non-explosive energetic material and a reactive armor element using same

An armor module comprising a rigid casing having a front face, a top face and a bottom face, and a plurality of multi-layer planner cassettes fixedly mounted within the casing. Each cassette has a top base plate and a bottom base plate, sandwiching between them at least a one other layer. The top base plate of an uppermost cassette constitutes the top face of the casing, and a bottom base plate of a lowermost cassette constitutes the bottom face of the casing.

A reactive armor element for protection against a shaped-charge warhead, comprising a casing fitted with an outer metal cover plate, and at least one explosive matrix extending between the metal plates. The explosive matrix comprises a substantially flat carrier plate formed with a plurality of compartments formed by adjoining divider ribs, with explosive material embedded between the ribs.

Explosive matrix for a reactive armor element

Reactive armor elements each holding at least one reactive assembly of the kind in which an explosive layer is sandwiched between two metal plates, which is paired with a passive assembly comprising a layer of swellable material sandwiched between two metal plates. In each such pair the reactive assembly is outermost.
