Compositions are disclosed herein comprising a graft copolymer having (i) a backbone comprising dextran with a molecular weight of at least about 100000 Daltons, and poly alpha-1,3-glucan side chains comprising at least about 95% alpha-1,3-glucosidic linkages. Further disclosed are reactions for producing such graft copolymers, as well as their use in absorbent materials.

Dextran-poly alpha-1,3-glucan graft copolymers and synthesis methods thereof

Described herein are: An electrolyte composition comprising a) a fluorinated solvent for an electrolyte salt; b) an oxalate salt represented by the Formula LiPF(Ox), wherein Ox is an oxalate moiety and q is 1, 2 or 3; and c) optionally, at least one electrolyte salt. In some embodiments, the electrolyte composition comprises a mole ratio of Ox/P in the range of from 0.001 to 5. The electrolyte compositions are useful in electrochemical cells, such as lithium ion batteries.

Nonaqueous electrolyte compositions comprising lithium oxalato phosphates

Disclosed herein is a fibrous tissue sealant in the form of an anhydrous fibrous sheet comprising a first component which is a fibrous polymer containing electrophilic or nucleophilic groups and a second component capable of crosslinking the first component when the sheet is exposed to an aqueous medium, thereby forming a crosslinked hydrogel that is adhesive to biological tissue. The fibrous tissue sealant may be useful as a general tissue adhesive for medical and veterinary applications such as wound closure, supplementing or replacing sutures or staples in internal surgical procedures, tissue repair, and to prevent post-surgical adhesions. The fibrous tissue sealant may be particularly suitable for use as a hemostatic sealant to stanch bleeding from surgical or traumatic wounds.

Method of using fibrous tissue sealant

There is a cell comprising an article comprising a hydrocarbon ionomer. The article may be any element in the cell, such as an interior wall, or a modification to an element, such as a film, a membrane, and a coating. The hydrocarbon ionomer is any polymer with ionic functionality, such as a polymeric (methacrylate) neutralized with lithium, and not containing halogen or halogen-containing substituents. The hydrocarbon ionomer may also be included in a composition within an element of the cell, such as a porous separator. The cell also comprises a positive electrode including sulfur compound, a negative electrode, a circuit coupling the positive electrode with the negative electrode, an electrolyte medium and an interior wall of the cell. In addition, there are methods of making the cell and methods of using the cell.

Fibrous tissue sealant and method of using same

Aldehyde-functionalized polyethers containing thiomethylaldehyde groups are described. Also described is a method of preparing the aldehyde-functionalized polyethers. These functionalized polyethers may be useful for protein conjugation, surface modification, and for the formation of hydrogel adhesives and sealants which are useful for medical applications.

Aldehyde-functionalized polyethers and method of making same

Branched end reactants having two or three functional groups at the ends are disclosed. The branched end reactants are used to prepare crosslinked hydrogel tissue adhesives, which have a good balance of mechanical properties in an aqueous environment. Kits comprising the branched end reactants and methods for applying a coating to an anatomical site on tissue of a living organism are also disclosed.
