The present invention describes a pressure-sensitive hydrophilic laminate composite comprising contiguous layers of a tacky pressure sensitive hydrophilic polymer blend, and a non-tacky hydrophilic polymer blend. Numerous variations in individual layer formulations allow for a multitude of hydrophilic blend laminate composite structures, which are readily utilizable as wound dressings, and/or transdermal and topical delivery systems incorporating a wide range of bioactive agents. The hydrophilic laminate composite structurese are characterized by ease of application, adhesiveness to skin, high tensile strength, mechanical integrity, transparency, fluid absorbency, and highly effective bacterial barrier properties, and permeability to water vapor, oxygen and drugs and/or bioactive agents. In the preferred embodiments, they are further characterized in their ability to inhibit severe maceration of the wound as well as underlying tissue destruction upon removal.

A tape backing comprised of a siliconized epoxy resin reinforced with a polyester or polyamide non-woven fabric is described. The reinforcing non-wovens consist of polyester fibers or the more temperature resistant aromatic polyamide fibers. The non-woven reinforced silicone modified epoxy coated tape backing of the present invention has improved thermal, chemical, water, and electrical insulation resistance, and improved lubricity over the prior art backings. Additionally, an important advantage of the silicone modified composition of the present invention is that it is possible to eliminate release coating the backing when used as a tape backing, as the silicone increases the lubricity of the backing; i.e. the adhesion of the adhesive mass is lowered to the extent that no release coating or release liner is required during use.

Prepolymerized resins are applied to wooden articles to coat them and impart a tough and abrasive resistant surface which protects the articles from deterioration and delamination due to shock, impact and abrasive forces.
