A fuel gas-operated vehicle heater includes a burner area with a combustion chamber () formed in a combustion chamber housing (). The combustion chamber housing () includes a circumferential wall () defining the combustion chamber () in relation to a housing longitudinal axis radially outwards and a bottom area () axially defining the combustion chamber (). The bottom area () has a fuel gas feed chamber () between a first bottom wall () defining the combustion chamber () and a second bottom wall (). A fuel gas feed line () opens into the fuel gas feed chamber (). A fuel gas inlet opening assembly is provided in the first bottom wall () for the entry of fuel gas from the fuel gas feed chamber () into the combustion chamber ().

Fuel gas-operated vehicle heater

The present invention relates to a residual gas burner () for a fuel cell system () having to educt gas feeds () for feeding an educt gas each to a combustion chamber () of the residual gas burner (). An improved operation of the residual gas burner () is obtained when the educt gas feeds () each comprise outlet openings (), wherein the outlet openings () face the combustion chamber () and the outlet openings () of one of the educt gas feeds () face a first bottom surface () of the other educt gas feed (). In addition, the invention relates to a fuel cell system () having such a residual gas burner ().

Residual gas burner

A process is provided for operating a fuel cell system (), especially in a motor vehicle, wherein the fuel cell system () includes at least one reformer () and at least one fuel cell (). To prolong the service life of the system (), a warm-holding mode is carried out after switching off the fuel cell system (). During the warm-holding mode an educt containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide is fed to the reformer () and reacted with air in reformer () at a catalyst () of reformer () in an exothermal reaction.
