The ambient illuminance sensor system disclosed herein includes a light sensor to generate a series of ambient illuminance values from an area surrounding a computing device, a human presence sensor configured to detect presence of a human in vicinity of the computing device, and computer implemented instructions for determining ambient illuminance level (AIL) based on at least in part on the series of ambient illuminance values, determining presence of a human in vicinity of the light sensor, and based on at least in part on determining that the AIL is below a threshold and that a human is present, applying a hysteresis filter to process the series of ambient illuminance values.

Ambient illuminance sensor system

A display assembly includes a display layer with a plurality of display elements to provide display light and form a display image. A first subset of display elements is used while the display assembly is operating in a full visibility mode, and a second subset of display elements is used while the display assembly is operating in a restricted visibility mode. A touch-sensitive layer includes a plurality of conductive traces disposed proximate to the display layer. The plurality of conductive traces are shaped and positioned to block a first portion of the display light while the display assembly is operating in the full visibility mode, and block a second, greater portion of the display light while the display assembly is operating in the restricted visibility mode. A visibility controller is used to switch the display assembly between the full visibility mode and the restricted visibility mode.

An organic light emitting diode (OLED) display system comprises an OLED array and a power management system that includes at least one voltage generator for the OLED array. A timing microcontroller comprises a decoder/encoder configured to receive HDR pixel data and output display pixel data. A portion of the HDR pixel data is sampled and a luminance index value of the sampled portion is determined, where the luminance index value corresponds to a maximum luminance of the sampled portion. The luminance index value is used to control the at least one voltage generator to reduce power consumption of the OLED display system.

A method for calibrating the color space on multiple displays in a computing system includes determining a native color space for each of multiple displays; dynamically selecting a target color space to implement on each of the multiple displays based at least in part on the determined native color space of each one of the multiple displays; and instructing one of the multiple displays to map the associated native color space to the target color space.

The ambient illuminance and light geometry detection system includes a computing process including receiving a hinge angle between two displays of a foldable computing device, illuminance values from illuminance sensors of the displays, and screen activity of each of the displays of the foldable computing device, determining foldable computing device posture information based at least in part on the hinge angle and the screen activity of each of the displays, determining a user facing display of the foldable computing device based at least in part on the device posture information and the screen activity of the displays, assigning differential weights to an illuminance value received from an illuminance sensor of the user facing display compared to an illuminance value received from an illuminance sensor of the non-user facing display and generating an aggregate weighted average illuminance by applying the differential weights to the illuminance values of each of the displays.

The description relates to hinged devices, such as hinged computing devices. One example can receive content data relating to a pair of displays that are rotatable around a hinge axis and that include curved regions proximate to the hinge axis. The example can generate a frame rendering for the content data that progressively dims the curved regions of the displays with decreasing distance from hinge axis.

OLED display color output may vary substantially as a function of display temperature, which changes over time. Luminance of each of the pixels is defined by the current flowing therethrough, which is a function of the applied voltage and resistivity of the pixels. Temperature affects the resistivity of the pixels and thus the current flowing therethrough if voltage is held constant. The temperature response of red, green, and blue pixels differs, particularly at low applied voltage levels. As a result, the relative luminance of red, green, blue may vary with temperature changes, which may yield an undesirable overall color variance. The presently disclosed systems and methods dynamically adjust driving voltage to maintain color quality within a desired specification, while also reducing (or in some implementations, minimizing) power consumption of the OLED display.

Varying electrical currents are selectively applied to each pixel within an OLED display to create desired images. High applied electrical currents to groupings of nearby pixels create high luminance features, while low applied electrical currents to groupings of nearby pixels create low luminance features. A combination of a high luminance and low luminance features may be present on the OLED display. Pulse-width modulation (PWM) is often used to increase the current applied to the OLED display by modulating the applied current, particularly when creating low luminance features. The presently disclosed systems and methods detect a gray portion of an image to be presented, and select PWM independently of peak luminance based on the detected gray portion. The allows the OLED display to display low-luminance features at high quality, even when high-luminance features are also present within a frame.

Sensor calibration methods and systems can for providing accurate color values are disclosed. In one example, a method includes obtaining color measurements that indicate an amount of ambient light, as well as clustering the color measurements, and storing cluster parameters for the clustered color measurements. The method can further include automatic calculation of, for each cluster, generic transformation parameters for conversion of a color measurement to a calibrated color value. In another example, a method can include exposing a light sensor to a calibration ambient lighting, calculating sensor correction parameters for the light sensor, and storing the calculated parameters. As an additional example, an electronic device is adapted to determine calibrated color values with machine readable media storing cluster parameters, sensor correction parameters, and generic transform parameters used by the electronic device to calculate calibrated color values for ambient light sensor measurements.

While organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display devices are often calibrated upon commissioning to provide similar output colors in response to input signals, they are not calibrated based on varying display content. Significant variation in output color as a function of varying output display content is increasingly unacceptable to users. In an OLED display, an emissive electroluminescent layer selectively emits light in discrete areas in response to an electric current. Higher overall applied electrical currents correspond to higher overall output luminesces, however, as current is increased, attendant voltage generally drops. Variation in attendant voltage causes variation in output color. The presently disclosed display drivers that detect an on-pixel ratio of an input display signal, select a gamma correction factor, apply the selected gamma correction factor, and output a color-corrected display signal to the OLED display address variations in output color as a function of varying output display content.

Computing devices and methods for adjusting light output of a display in a user computing device are disclosed. In one example, user-adjusted brightness settings are received from a plurality of computing devices. For each brightness setting, a corresponding environment brightness level determined contemporaneously with execution of the user-adjusted brightness setting is also received. At least one crowd-sourced brightness curve is generated using the user-adjusted brightness settings and the corresponding environment brightness levels. When a trigger event occurs, the at least one crowd-sourced brightness curve is distributed to the user computing device.

Systems and methods for determining a colorimetric value from color measurements for multiple ambient color sensors which for each color measurement, in various approaches, select a lighting cluster similar to the color measurement and determine whether the color measurement is valid or invalid based on a calculated similarity between the color measurement and the selected lighting cluster, calculate a weight for the color measurement for combination with other color measurements based on the calculated similarity between the color measurement and its selected lighting cluster, determine whether the color measurement is valid or invalid based on perceptual color space distances for the color measurement for multiple reference light sources, and/or calculate a weight for the color measurement for combination with other color measurements based on the perceptual color space distances for multiple reference light sources.
