The invention embodies the application of different combinations of the monitoring and data processing aspects as a means to develop an early warning chatter alarming system. Configuring an early warning chatter alarming system can be as simple as using n&#x3c3; alarm settings to develop an alarming strategy from different trend conditions such as overall RMS, selected vibration frequencies, slope analysis, and wavelet analysis. A higher level of alarming is provided by using a time integrated approach to account for both intensity of the alarm variable and duration. Combining these different aspects with a predictive model incorporates process-operating conditions to enhance the alarming sensitivity for earlier detection and reduce false positives. Finally, combining the different alarming aspects with a rule-based decision making approach such as fuzzy logic allows alarming based on qualitative analysis of different data streams.

Method for early warning chatter detection and asset protection management

The invention embodies methods and apparatuses to monitor and control the characteristics of a creping process. The method involves measuring optical properties of various points along a creped paper sheet and converting those measurements into characteristic defining data. The invention allows for determining the magnitude and distribution of crepe structures and their frequency and distribution. This allows for the generation of information that is accurate and is much more reliable than the coarse guessing that is currently used in the industry. Feeding this information to papermaking process equipment can result in increases in both quality and efficiency in papermaking.

A method for target application of a Performance Enhancing Material to a creping cylinder in order to improve a tissue making operation is described and claimed. The method involves dividing the creping cylinder into Zones and then applying the desired Performance Enhancing Material on a Zone by Zone basis such that each Zone has the optimal Performance Enhancing Material present. Furthermore, a method to ascertain the amount and pattern of application of the Performance Enhancing Material used on the creping cylinder is described and claimed. This method involves adding an inert fluorescent tracer to said Performance Enhancing Material and then to use a fluorometer to look for the tracer on the creping cylinder, and/or on the creped tissue product and/or in the water removed from the felt.

Method of creping paper webs

A creping adhesive for applying to a creping surface in the process for dry creping tissue and or towel paper is disclosed. The adhesive comprises a blend of at least two water-soluble cationic polyamide-epihalohydrin (PAE) resins. The first PAE resin has a mole ratio of epihalohydrin to secondary amine groups of the polyamine ranging from about 0.5:1.0 to about 1.8:1.0; and the second PAE resin has a mole ratio of epihalohydrin to secondary amine groups of the polyamine less than 0.5:1.0. The weight percent of the solids in the admixture or blend in an aqueous solution ranges from about 40% to about 0.01% solids, wherein the solids in this admixture are comprised of from about 0.1% to about 50.0% by weight of the first PAE resin and from about 99.9% to about 50.0% by weight of the second PAE resin. Varying the percentages of the two PAE resins in the creping adhesive can produce desired levels of adhesion and water resistance for given grades of tissue and/or towel paper products.

Rolled creped paper products, such as kitchen towels, can be provided with high roll bulk and a high degree of roll firmness by steaming the dry, creped paper sheet immediately prior to embossing the sheet between matched steel embossing rolls. The steaming preconditions the sheet such that the resulting sheet embossments maintain their shape and structural strength, thereby imparting greater bulk and firmness to the wound roll of product. In addition, the sheet experiences less cross-machine strength reduction as a consequence of the embossing.
