An amplifier for converting a single-ended input signal to a differential output signal. The amplifier comprises a first transistor, a second transistor, a third transistor and a fourth transistor. The first transistor, configured in common-source or common-emitter mode, receives the single-ended input signal and generates a first part of the differential output signal. The second transistor, also configured in common-source or common-emitter mode, generates a second part of the differential output signal. The third and fourth transistors are capacitively cross-coupled. The amplifier further comprises inductive degeneration such that a source or emitter of the first transistor is connected to a first inductor and a source or emitter of the second transistor is connected to a second inductor.

Low noise amplifier circuit

A switched mode power supply comprises a control signal generator arranged to generate first and second control signals via first and second outputs, respectively, which are coupled to respective first and second inputs of a switching stage, by means of respective first and second control signal paths. The switching stage is arranged to, responsive to the first and second control signals, alternately charge and discharge the reactive element by coupling it alternately to first and second supply voltages. An adjustable delay stage in one of the first and second signal paths is arranged to control an adjustable delay so that a first delay experienced by the first control signal passing from the control signal generator's first output to the switching stage's first input is substantially equal to a second delay experienced by the second control signal passing from the control signal generator's second output to the switching stage's second input.

Switched mode power supply

A mobile terminal including an up-converter converting a baseband (BB) signal into a radio frequency (RF) signal and a controller controlling a voltage applied to the up-converter is provided. The up-converter includes a first transistor and a second transistor each having a gate to which a baseband voltage is applied, a third transistor having a drain connected in parallel to a drain of the first transistor, and a fourth transistor having a drain connected in parallel to a drain of the second transistor, and the up-converter and the mobile terminal with improved phase linearity characteristics may be provided.

Up-converter and mobile terminal having the same

A mobile terminal performing harmonic rejection includes a plurality of baseband units generating a baseband signal; a plurality of up-converters converting the baseband signal into a radio frequency (RF) signal; and a controller controlling phases of a plurality of signals applied to the plurality of baseband units and the plurality of up-converters. Meanwhile, the controller may perform at least one of a harmonic rejection mode, a first non-harmonic rejection mode for improving a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and a second non-harmonic rejection mode for improving linearity to provide a transmitting part having improved harmonic distortion characteristics and the mobile terminal having the transmitting part.

Method of controlling harmonics and mobile terminal performing thereof

A mobile terminal according to the present invention includes a main transmitter to amplify and transmit a first signal of a first frequency band through a first path and a second path, and an auxiliary transmitter to amplify and transmit a second signal of a second frequency band through a third path. The mobile terminal further includes a controller to control the amplified first signal and the amplified second signal to be combined with each other when the distortion signal is to occur in frequency bands adjacent to the first frequency band due to the amplified first signal, thereby providing a radio frequency (RF) front end and a mobile terminal with improved non-linearity.

Radio frequency amplifier circuit and mobile terminal having the same

A switched mode power supply () comprises a reactive element () and a control signal generator () is arranged to generate a first control signal at a first output () of the control signal generator () and a second control signal at a second output () of the control signal generator (). The first output () of the control signal generator () is coupled to a first input () of a switching stage () by means of a first control signal path () and the second output () of the control signal generator () is coupled to a second input () of the switching stage () by means of a second control signal path (). The switching stage () is arranged to, responsive to the first and second control signals, alternately charge and discharge the reactive element () by coupling it alternately to first and second supply voltages. A delay detector () is arranged to generate a delay indicator signal indicative of a relative delay between the first control signal at the first input () of the switching stage () and the second control signal at the second input () of the switching stage (). An adjustable delay stage () in one of the first and second signal paths () is arranged to, responsive to the delay indicator signal, control an adjustable delay so that a first delay experienced by the first control signal passing from the first output () of the control signal generator () to the first input () of the switching stage () is substantially equal to a second delay experienced by the second control signal passing from the second output () of the control signal generator () to the second input () of the switching stage ().

A modulation processor () comprises a first processing stage () and a second processing stage (). The first processing stage () comprises a phase generation stage () arranged to generate a phase signal (PM) indicative of a phase of a modulation signal (S), a differentiation stage () arranged to generate a frequency signal (FM) by differentiating the phase signal (PM), and a first bandwidth reduction stage () arranged to generate a first output signal (FM_LP) by reducing a bandwidth of the frequency signal (FM). The second processing stage () is arranged to generate a second output signal (AM*) proportional to the modulation signal (S) with its phase retarded by an angle equal to an integral of the first output signal (FM_LP).

Semi-polar modulator

Systems and methods for mitigating interference in a Local Oscillator (LO) signal generated by a Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system includes a PLL and an error compensation subsystem. The PLL includes a Controlled Oscillator (CO) that provides a LO output signal based on a control signal, a phase detector that generates a phase detector output signal that is indicative of a phase error between a feedback signal that is a function of the LO output signal and a reference signal, and a loop filter that filters the phase detector output signal to provide the control signal for the CO. The error compensation subsystem applies, based on the phase detector output signal, a phase rotation to a signal derived from the LO output signal to thereby compensate for a phase error in the signal resulting from a phase error in the local oscillator output signal.

Local oscillator interference cancellation

A linearization circuit improves the linearity of a power amplifier based on an envelope of an input RF signal. The linearization circuit comprises an RF signal generation circuit, a replica circuit, and an adaptive amplifier. The RF signal generation circuit generates the RF signal from a phase and an amplitude of an input digital signal. The replica circuit extracts the envelope from the RF signal and generates a sensing voltage based on the extracted envelope. The adaptive amplifier generates an adaptive bias voltage for the power amplifier based on the sensing voltage, and applies the adaptive bias voltage to the power amplifier and to the replica circuit to improve the linearity of the power amplifier by regulating the power amplifier and the replica circuit according to the envelope.

PPA linearization

A calibration solution for a power amplifier array comprising a plurality of amplifier cells is presented that improves the linearity and efficiency of the power amplifier, especially when only a small number of the amplifier cells are active. To that end, a bias control word is selected from a predetermined bias table for each of the active power amplifier cells. An average of the selected bias control words is then used to bias an input stage of each active power amplifier cell. The solution presented herein provides techniques for determining the bias control words, as well as using the bias control words.

Method for class-B amplifier mismatch correction

Systems and methods for compensating for a known interferer to a Controlled Oscillator (CO) of a Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system includes a PLL and a compensation system. The compensation system is configured to generate a compensation signal based on a complex correlation of an output signal of a phase detector of the PLL and a signal derived from a replica of a known interferer to the CO. The compensation system is further configured to apply the compensation signal to the control signal provided by the low-pass filter of the phase-locked loop to thereby provide the compensated control signal for the CO of the phase-locked loop. In this manner, the compensation system mitigates the known interferer at the CO of the PLL.
