A method for establishing a connection between a circuit-switched mobile station (MS) and a packet-switched switching element (MSC). A radio network controller (RNC) receives a first initiation signal (an attach request) from the mobile station (MS) via a circuit-switched connection. The RNC opens a signaling connection for the mobile station. While the signaling connection is active, the RNC receives a second initiation signal (call setup) and opens a real-time connection for the mobile station. Thus the packet-switched switching element (MSC) is able to switch a real-time connection to/from the circuit-switched mobile station (MS).

Method for establishing a connection between a terminal of a first type and a core network of a second type in a telecommunications network

According to the present invention a method and an apparatus in a packet-switched network for supplying data packets to receivers (-) belonging to a multicast group are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a routing means () for receiving data packets from a sender () and for buffering data packets the destination address of which is a multicast address of a multicast group. The apparatus further comprises a control means () communicating with the routing means () for determining the addresses of the receivers (-) of the multicast group indicated by the multicast address and receiver-specific parameters, for designating filters for each receiver (-) and/or each determined receiver address in accordance with the receiver-specific parameters and for supplying the determined addresses and designated filters to the routing means (). The routing means () filters the multicast data packets and/or the determined addresses with the designated filters for each receiver (-) of the multicast group and supplies the filtered multicast dam packets to the filtered receiver addresses.

Controlled multicast

A system and method for supplying selected advertising to gamers accessing games suppliers over communications networks including mobile networks. Data on the user's geographic location and personal profile are used to select the advertising. The selected advertising is displayed in the game either on screen borders or at selected intervals in the game.

Advanced service architecture for next generation network services and intelligent data network router

In a packet radio network a packet data address is activated for a terminal for transmitting data packets between the terminal and an external network. Information on the activated packet data address is stored at least in the edge nodes of the network. To prevent spoofing, i.e., misrepresentation of sender data, the method and network node of the invention comprise checking in the node whether the source address of the packet transmitted from the terminal is the same as the packet data address used in the transmission of the packet or does the source address belong to a set of allowed packet data addresses. The packet is transmitted from the node towards the destination address only if the addresses are identical or the source address belongs to the set of allowed packet data addresses.

Prevention of spoofing in telecommunications system

A communication system can include a network having a first network access point and a second network access point and being capable of carrying data between the first network access point and the second access point via, for example, a packet-switched bearer and a circuit-switched bearer. The communications system can also include a first terminal configured to connect to the first network access point and a second terminal configured to connect to the second network access point. Each terminal can be capable of simultaneously supporting a packet-switched connection and a circuit-switched connection with the other terminal via the network as a single logical communication arrangement.

A telecommunications system for receiving from a telecommunications unit a request for data from a target network address may include a request completion unit configured to receive the request for data from the telecommunications unit and to transmit a request for the data to the target address. The request completion unit may be further configured, on receiving the data from the target address, to transmit the data to the telecommunications unit via the radio link. The request completion unit, if it is determined that the request to the target address is not satisfied, may be configured to attempt to establish communication with the target address, and, if it is determined that such communication is possible, transmit an indication via the radio link to the telecommunications unit.

Satisfying data requests in a telecommunications system

A method for performing handover of a mobile station communicating in a first call via a first network to communication in a second call via a second network, comprising: generating a request for handover; establishing the second call between the first network and the mobile station via the second network; and transferring data communication between the mobile station and the first network from the first call to the second call.

Inter-system handover

The present invention relates to a telecommunications system and method for providing a plurality of services, the services providing control for communication via the telecommunications system. The system comprises a switching point for triggering one or more services of said plurality of services for a communication. Each of the services may reserve at least one control characteristic. A service manager connected to the switching point is arranged to determine if at least two services can be provided for the communication based on information relating to control characteristics of said at least two services. A new service can be started only if the control characteristics it requires are not reserved by a previously invoked service. A service manager for use in a telecommunication system for managing the plurality of services is also disclosed.

Feature interactions

The invention relates to selection of the implementation of a service, and particularly to selection of the implementation of a supplementary service in a mobile communication system, in a situation where a user can use different terminals the properties of which vary. In the solution of the invention, at least two different implementations are defined for a service, the terminal requirements of which differ from each other. The implementation of the service is selected (, and) on the basis of the properties of the terminal used. Thus the implementation of the services is made as optimal and flexible as possible by implementing each service function at the most useful location considering the properties of the terminal and network.

Selection of service implementation

A method for reserving quality of service (QoS) in a wireless telecommunication system, which comprises at least one mobile station, a support node serving the mobile station, and a data terminal communicating with the mobile station. QoS is reserved and maintained by transmitting path messages and reservation messages between QoS protocol entities of the mobile station and the data terminal. When reserving QoS, data at least on the first path and reservation messages is stored in the mobile station and the support node. The mobile station and the support node drop, on the basis of the stored data, the next messages corresponding to the first path and reservation messages to be transmitted between the mobile station and the data terminal. The mobile station and the support node transmit messages corresponding to the first path and reservation messages periodically to the QoS protocol entities of the mobile station and the data terminal on the basis of the stored data.

Reserving quality of service in wireless telecommunication system

The presentation of information identifying a calling user of a terminal device (MS-A) to a called terminal device (MS-B) in a communication involving a radio access network is triggered upon receipt of an incoming call; if triggered, the information is presented to a user at a man machine interface (MMI) of the terminal device; a user input is collected via the man machine interface (MMI) in response to the presentation, and the received call is controlled according to the collected user input. It becomes advantageously possible to initiate a retrieval procedure for calling party identifying information while the call is being controlled by a service control device and prior to the routing of the call to the called terminal device.

Method for call control in intelligent networks

Mobility agents or routers transmit attribute information on one or more network elements in advertising messages to at least one mobile node.
