Described herein is a device that includes at least one radio frequency transmitter; at least one radio frequency receiver; a copy block configurable to output a digital representation of a currently transmitted signal and a model having a representation of at least analog circuitry of the at least one radio frequency transmitter and analog circuitry of the at least one radio frequency receiver, as well as possibly one or more antennas. Analog signal path modeling for self-interference cancellation

A HARQ data reception scheme for a multiradio communication device is disclosed. The communication device operates multiple radio connections and monitors interference level caused to a target radio connection by at least one other radio connection operated in the communication device. A data packet and at least one retransmission data packet are received with the target radio connection. The utilization of the received data packet and the at least one received retransmission data packet in a hybrid automatic repeat request data reception is determined according to the interference level at the time instant associated with the reception of the corresponding data packet. Under high interference, the received data packet may be discarded, and detected and decoded data packets may be weighted for the HARQ combining according to the interference levels associated with the data packets.

A method is disclosed for operating a mobile station () by determining whether there is a decreased probability of a presence of a transmitter () near to the mobile station that is transmitting on a frequency channel that is adjacent to a frequency channel being received from a serving cell transmitter () and, for a case where it is determined that there is a decreased probability of the presence of the transmitter, reducing the filter order of a baseband filter () of the mobile station and reducing the dynamic range of an analog to digital converter () of the mobile station for reducing mobile station power consumption. Reducing the filter order further beneficially reduces inter-symbol interference. In one embodiment the step of determining determines a speed of the mobile station, and correlates the speed with the probability of the presence of the transmitter such that at a lower speed the determination is that the probability is increased and at a higher speed the determination is that the probability is decreased. A measurement of adjacent channel transmitted power may be used as a verification. The speed is determined based at least in part on an output () of a mobile station automatic frequency control function. In another embodiment the step of determining employs information received from a network operator location services function (). The mobile station can also determine if there is a decreased probability of a presence of a transmitter near to the mobile station that is transmitting on a frequency channel that may cause Inter-Modulation Distortion with a frequency channel being received from a serving cell transmitter. For a case where it is determined that there is a decreased probability of the presence of the transmitter, the method reduces the linearity of the receiver for reducing mobile station power consumption.

Method and apparatus providing adaptable current consumption for mobile station based on macrocell/microcell determination

A mobile station is constructed to include a transceiver comprising a transmitter circuit having a transmit RF filter that passes a transmit band of frequencies that is partitioned into transmit frequency channels and a receiver circuit having a receiver RF filter that passes a receive band of frequencies that is partitioned into receiver frequency channels. Also included is an antenna coupled through a duplexer to an output of the transmitter circuit and to an input of the receiver circuit. The mobile station further includes circuitry, responsive to a currently selected RF channel, for compensating for a non-ideal operation of the RF filters and the duplexer over a full bandwidth range of the transmit and receive frequencies. The compensating circuitry compensates for RF filter operation in a transmit RF channel that is nearest to the band of receive RF frequencies and/or compensates for RF filter operation in a receive RF channel that is nearest to the band of transmit RF frequencies. The compensation circuitry can be implemented using a digital signal processor (DSP) device or a finite impulse response (FIR) device. In the preferred embodiment the transmit and the receive ranges of frequencies are each about 60 MHz and are each partitioned into 12 frequency channels, and a highest frequency channel in the transmit range of frequencies and a lowest frequency channel in the receive range of frequencies are separated by about 20 MHz.

Method and apparatus for reducing RF filter induced distortion in a wide bandwidth wireless system by the use of channel-dependent RF filter compensation

The invention relates to an arrangement and method for reducing losses at the transmitting end of a radio apparatus, especially one that operates in more than one system. An interfering transmitter is provided with two antenna filters one of which is a low-pass-type filter and the other a band-pass filter. The filter (BPF) with a higher stop-band attenuation is used only when the receiver (, LNA) susceptible to interference is in receive state. At other times, the filter (LPF) with a lower stop-band attenuation and, hence, a lower pass-band attenuation, is used as the transmitting-end filter. Advantageously the selection between the different filters is realized using MEMS-type switches (SWto SW). The invention minimizes the mean current consumption of the radio-frequency power amplifier (PA) of the said radio apparatus. The space required by and the production costs of the arrangement according to the invention are relatively small.

Arrangement and method for reducing losses in radio transmitter

A method and device for avoiding adjacent channel interference and reducing disconnections caused thereby, during communication between a mobile device and a base station in a wireless telecommunications network. The mobile device measures the strength of a received signal before the signal enters one or more selected filters, and compares the strength of the signal after the filtering, in order to estimate a power ratio of the adjacent channel interference to communication channel power. If the power ratio is greater than a threshold, then a handover is requested to an alternative communication channel available between the mobile device and either the base station or another base station.

A method for measuring a power level of a radio frequency signal in a radio frequency transmitter includes routing a portion of the radio frequency signal to a detector, detecting a signal envelope of the radio frequency signal with the detector, routing the detected signal to a digital signal processor, and talking at least one sample from the detected signal envelope using the digital signal processor and determining a detected power level of the radio frequency signal from the at least one sample, wherein the at least one sample lies in a portion of the detected signal envelope having a known non-random sequence.
