Methods and systems are provided for transmitting video data from a vehicle. In one exemplary embodiment, a vehicle processor receives a video transmission command that has been generated in response to a user selection of a video transmission input device, and the vehicle processor transmits video data captured by one or more vehicle cameras in response to the received video transmission command, wherein transmission of video data is at least partly over a telecommunications network to a remote server.

Methods and systems are provided for transmitting video data associated with a vehicle. In one exemplary embodiment, a vehicle processor determines a vehicle safety event based on one or more safety sensors, activates one or more vehicle cameras that capture video data in response to the determined vehicle safety event, records the video data in a vehicle data storage device, and, if the vehicle processor determines that a suitable connection to a telecommunications network is available when the video data is being captured, then transmits the video data over the telecommunications network in substantially real time.

A communication system and method utilizing the communication system. The method includes performing a vehicle function based on a proximity of two wireless devices to a vehicle. The steps of method include: establishing a short-range wireless communication (SRWC) link between a SRWC system on the vehicle and a first wireless device; establishing another SRWC link between the SRWC system and a second wireless device, wherein the first and second wireless devices are associated with a common user; receiving a wireless signal at the SRWC system from each of the first and second wireless devices; determining a proximity of the two wireless devices based on receiving the wireless signals; and performing a vehicle function based on the determined location.

An input to increase or decrease a system setting in a vehicle interior is received, and the setting is adjusted. In one example, an in-vehicle ambient light color is controlled during the adjusting so an ambient light changes from a primary color setting to a first feedback color during setting increase and to a second feedback color during setting decrease; and the ambient light color is returned to the primary color setting at a time after completing the adjusting. In another example, the ambient light color is controlled during the adjusting so the ambient light transitions from a then-current color setting towards a first feedback color during setting increase and towards a second feedback color during setting decrease; and upon reaching an increased or decreased setting value, the ambient light remains at a new then-current color until another setting input is received or until the ambient light is turned off.
