A wireless-access point includes a first radio to transmit RF signals in a first channel; a second radio to transmit, simultaneously to transmissions of the RF signals by the first radio, RF signals in a second, non-overlapping channel; and a plurality of planar antennas coupled with corresponding first and second radios to receive the RF signals. First and second planar antennas are coupled with the first radio to receive therefrom, in the first channel, a first RF signal and a second RF signal, respectively. The first planar antenna is arranged with its normal along a first direction. The second planar antenna is arranged with its normal along a second, different direction. A third planar antenna is coupled with the second radio to receive therefrom a third RF signal in the second channel, the third planar antenna being arranged with its normal along a third direction.

A wireless network includes wireless network devices each having at least one radio providing wireless services to wireless clients. A first wireless network device collects first information and first measurement from at least one client using the at least one radio in the first wireless network device. A second wireless network device is configured to collect second information and second measurements from the at least one client using the at least one radio in the second wireless network device. Either one or both of the first and second wireless network devices is configured to determine a score about the relationship between the at least one radio in the first wireless network device and the at least one radio the second wireless network device using at least the first information and the second information, and the first measurements and the second measurements.

Radio resource management in wireless networks with multiple access points

A simple multi-directional, multi-port array antenna structure is disclosed that can be used for a variety of applications, including but not limited to direction finding (DF) and beam-forming applications in receive and transmit modes, respectively. The disclosed antenna structure offers unique functionalities in both receive and transmit modes. For DF applications in the receive mode, the back-end of the antenna structure features a power sensing mechanism to monitor the power received at all ports. In the transmit mode, the disclosed antenna structure is used for beamforming applications by providing individual port excitation and using antenna arrays.

A wireless network includes a plurality of access points installed in a venue. The access points integrate multiple radios coupled with directional antennas with reconfigurable coverage. The directional antennas are configured to transmit and receive orthogonally polarized signals that support transmission of at least two data streams to or from mobile devices of users who are present in the venue. Additionally, wireless network includes at least one backhaul or backbone network coupled to the plurality of access points.

Overhead wireless access point deployments for arenas, stadiums and other venues

Antenna units, antenna systems and polarizing systems provide polarization diversity to leaky-wave antennas. An antenna unit comprises a rat-race coupler having a summation port, a difference port and two output ports. Each one of a pair of composite right/left-handed (CRLH) leaky-wave antennas (LWA) is connected at one end to a respective one of the output ports of the rat-race coupler. An inductive stub is implemented between the CRLH LWAs for connecting the CRLH LWAs to a grounded via. Various polarizations are obtained by injecting a radio-frequency (RF) signal in the summation or difference port of the rat-race coupler, or in both ports. System variants include various devices and assemblies for injecting RF signals in the antenna unit. One such variant includes a polarizing system having a switched matrix for directing a signal according to various intended polarizations.

Polarization-diverse antennas and systems

The present system relates to radiation pattern control. More particularly, the present system is adapted for controlling a radiation pattern of a directional antenna. The system comprises a sample collection unit, a power angular spectrum estimation unit and a control unit. The sample collection unit is adapted for collecting a plurality of samples of a signal with a current radiation pattern and a plurality of samples of the signal with different radiation patterns. The power angular spectrum estimation unit is adapted for estimating a preliminary spectrum of the signal based on the collected plurality of samples with the current radiation pattern and for estimating an optimized spectrum of the signal based on the collected plurality of samples with different radiation patterns. Then, the control unit sets the radiation pattern of the directional antenna to the estimated optimized spectrum.

The present device and method improve radiation efficiency of a leaky wave antenna. The device and method collect non-radiated power signal from the leaky wave antenna, perform a passive operation on the non-radiated power signal to obtain a modified power signal, and radiate the modified power signal.
