Various aspects relate generally to wireless communication and more particularly to beamforming techniques in wireless communication networks. Some aspects more specifically relate to beamforming techniques for uplink MU-MIMO communications, and the techniques can include UL MU-MIMO precoding using per-STA feedback. In some examples, an AP can support STA-side precoding for UL MU-MIMO communications by providing STAs with feedback representative of unitary matrices that correspond to block diagonal components of a matrix projection of channel matrices for the STAs in accordance with a linear equalizer. In some examples, the AP can trigger the STAs to transmit sounding packets concurrently, but can use the block diagonal matrix projection to process the various STAs' channels independently.

Uplink multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (UL MU-MIMO) precoding using per-station feedback

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for wireless communications over a 320 MHz bandwidth. Some implementations more specifically relate to signaling techniques for indicating the bandwidth of a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) transmitted in a secondary 160 MHz channel of the 320 MHz bandwidth. In some implementations, an access point (AP) may transmit an aggregated PPDU (A-PPDU) that includes a first sub-PPDU transmitted within a primary 160 MHz channel and a second sub-PPDU transmitted within a secondary 160 MHz channel. In such implementations, the first sub-PPDU may carry bandwidth information indicating the bandwidth of the first sub-PPDU within the primary 160 MHz channel and the second sub-PPDU may carry bandwidth information indicating the 320 MHz bandwidth.

This disclosure provides systems, devices, apparatus, and methods, including computer programs encoded on storage media, for techniques for reducing feedback information in an extremely high throughput (EHT) wireless local area network (WLAN). A receiving device (beamformee), such as a station (STA), may receive a sounding signal from a transmitting device (beamformer), such as an access point (AP), and transmit channel feedback. The receiving device may transmit the channel feedback as part of a reduced compressed beamforming feedback (CBF) operation that includes determining a first set of channel characteristics. The receiving device may select a subset of the first set of channel characteristics and determine a set of differential characteristics based on the subset. The transmitting device may then transmit the sets of characteristics as reduced CBF to the transmitting device. The transmitting device may determine a channel estimation for beamformed signaling based on the reduced CBF.

Techniques for reducing feedback information

A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. In one aspect, an apparatus is configured to transmit user data in a first symbol of a first symbol type. The first symbol type has a first symbol duration, a first frequency bandwidth, and a first tone plan. The first tone plan includes a first valid start tone index, a first valid end tone index, and a first set of DC tones. The apparatus is further configured to transmit an LTF in a second symbol of a second symbol type. The second symbol type has a second symbol duration, a second frequency bandwidth, and a second tone plan. The second tone plan includes a second valid start tone index, a second valid end tone index, and a second set of DC tones.

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for interpreting reserved bits and values associated with different releases of a wireless communication protocol. In some implementations, a wireless communication device may determine whether to terminate or continue reception of a physical layer protocol convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) if it detects a reserved bit in the physical layer preamble set to an unsupported value (such as a value different than what is defined by a version or release of the wireless communication protocol supported by the wireless communication device). In some other implementations, a wireless communication device may determine whether to terminate or continue reception of a PPDU if it detects a field in the physical layer preamble set to a reserved value (such as defined by a version or release of the wireless communication protocol supported by the wireless communication device).

Interpretation of reserved states in wireless packets

This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for a link adaptation protocol in a wireless local area network (WLAN). In one aspect, the link adaptation protocol may be used to select a transmission rate option (such as a modulation and coding scheme (MCS)) for communications from a first WLAN device to a second WLAN device based on wireless channel conditions. This disclosure includes several example message sequences for the link adaptation protocol which can accommodate a variety of uplink or downlink data transmission designs, including single user (SU) and multi-user (MU) transmissions. The example message sequences may be used with orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO), and beamformed transmissions.

Link adaptation protocol in a wireless local area network (WLAN)

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for data parsing for resource unit (RU) aggregation. A wireless communication device (such as an access point (AP) or a station (STA)) may allocate a set of RUs for a receiving device in a basic service set (BSS). The set of RUs may be associated with multiple bandwidth segments of a bandwidth allocation and may be non-contiguous or contiguous. The wireless communication device may determine a data parsing and encoding scheme for a set of information bits. The data parsing may be implemented at a medium access control (MAC) layer or physical (PHY) layer and the encoding may correspond to a joint encoding or a separate encoding for each RU of the allocation. The wireless communication device may then distribute the coded bits to the set of RUs for transmission.

Data parsing to support resource unit aggregation

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for generating enhanced sounding packets. Some implementations more specifically relate to sounding packet designs that support enhancements to wireless communication protocols associated with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11be amendment, and future generations, of the IEEE 802.11 standard. In some implementations, an enhanced null data packet announcement (NDPA) frame may be configurable to support multiple versions of the IEEE 802.11 standard. For example, the enhanced NDPA frame may be configured in accordance with a legacy or a non-legacy NDPA frame format. In some other implementations, the enhanced NDPA frame may include a subfield carrying information identifying a particular basic service set (BSS) which may be associated with one or more STA information fields. Still further, in some implementations, an Extremely High Throughput (EHT) PPDU may include signaling to indicate whether the EHT PPDU is formatted as a sounding NDP.

Enhanced sounding packet designs

This disclosure provides systems, methods, apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media for orthogonal multiplexing of high efficiency (HE) and extremely high throughput (EHT) wireless traffic. Devices in a wireless local area network (WLAN) may operate under HE or EHT conditions. An access point (AP) may support both HE and EHT communications with WLAN devices. To enable substantially simultaneous downlink HE and EHT transmissions and substantially simultaneous uplink HE and EHT transmissions, the AP may support orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) of HE and EHT transmissions. For example, pre-HE and pre-EHT modulated fields, HE and EHT modulated fields, and payloads may be aligned in time for the HE and EHT transmissions. The AP may ensure orthogonality for multiplexing the HE and EHT transmissions based on the alignment. In some implementations, a trigger frame may be utilized to indicate uplink transmission alignments.

Orthogonal multiplexing of high efficiency (HE) and extremely high throughput (EHT) wireless traffic

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for wireless communication, and particularly, methods, devices and systems for including signaling regarding enhanced features of new wireless communication protocols. The signaling may be included in various portions of a physical layer preamble of a wireless transmission. In some implementations, the physical layer preamble may be used to indicate puncturing of subbands or content channels that may carry further signaling in accordance with preamble signaling designs of this disclosure. The physical layer preamble signaling be parallelized for different subchannels of a wireless channel that consists of multiple subchannels. Some implementations of the physical layer preambles may be used to multiplex different types of wireless local area network communications into different subsets of the plurality of subchannels of the wireless channel.

Physical layer preamble and signaling for wireless communication

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for wireless communication, and particularly, for generating or receiving a multi-generation physical layer protocol data unit (PPDU). The multi-generation PPDU may concurrently include a first generation-specific preamble based on a first generation of a wireless communication specification (such as that defined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 family of standards) and a second generation-specific preamble based on a second generation of the wireless communication specification in a same transmission. The generation-specific preambles may be generated based on bandwidth portions of a wireless channel that each generation-specific preamble will occupy in the multi-generation PPDU. One or more of the generation-specific preambles may be modified based on an aggregate bandwidth of the multi-generation PPDU. This disclosure includes several options for modifying one or more generation-specific preambles or data fields to accommodate their use in a multi-generation PPDU.

Multi-generation communication in a wireless local area network (WLAN)

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. An access point (AP) may transmit, to a second AP and during a first portion of a transmission opportunity (TxOP), a request to participate in a multi-user (MU) transmission. The AP may receive, from the second AP and during the first portion of the TxOP, an indication of intent to participate in the MU transmission during the second portion of the TxOP, the indication of intent including a resource request of the second AP for participation in the MU transmission. The AP may transmit, during an initial period of the second portion of the TxOP, a trigger signal to the second AP indicating a set of one or more resources for the second AP during the MU transmission. The AP may participate, in conjunction with the second AP and during the second portion of the TxOP, in the MU transmission.

Protocols for multi-access point coordinated multi-user transmissions

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for generating packet preambles. Some implementations more specifically relate to preamble designs that support gains in data throughput achievable in accordance with the IEEE 802.11 be amendment, and future generations, of the IEEE 802.11 standard. Among other examples, the preamble designs of the present implementations may allow for more reliable packet detection, more accurate channel estimation, and more robust decoding of signal field (SIG) symbols. Additionally, or alternatively, the preamble designs of the present disclosure may be implemented with different lengths, modulation schemes, or transmit power compared to preamble designs that conform to existing versions of the IEEE 802.11 standard.

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for generating packet preambles. Some implementations more specifically relate to preamble designs for special cases such as, for example, full-bandwidth multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO), single-user (SU) preamble puncturing, hybrid automatic repeat request (HARD), and multi-AP coordination. Multi-AP coordination may refer to coordinated beamforming (CoBF), joint transmission (JT), or coordinated orthogonal frequency division multiple access (C-OFDMA).
