A digital-to-analog converter that outputs an analog value representing a digital value includes a decoding stage and an interpolation stage. The decoding stage defines upper and lower bounds and the interpolation stage outputs an interpolated value that is between the upper and lower bounds. The upper and lower bounds are based on a most-significant portion of the digital value. The interpolation stage selects the interpolated value based on the least-significant portion of the digital value.

A wearable sensor for monitoring an external bodily fluid includes a sensor thread, a wick, a substrate, and a communication interface all of which are disposed on a substrate. The wick wicks the external bodily fluid to a functionalized region of the thread. The communication interface transmits, to an external device, data indicative of what the sensor thread has measured in said external bodily fluid. The external device can then carry out real-time analysis or storage.

The subject matter of the invention concerns a three dimensional field-effect transistor having a channel based on graphene foam and the use of ionic liquid as a gate. The graphene foam is made of a three-dimensional network of single and double layer graphene that extends in all the three dimensions. Metal contacts on either end of the graphene foam form the drain and source contacts of the transistor.

Systems and methods for creating microneedle arrays capable of delivering a suitable drug dosages to subjects are provided. In one aspect, a method comprises creating at least one forming mold using laser ablation in a cross-over line pattern. The method further comprises casting a first material onto the at least one forming mold to create at least one microneedle mold. The method further comprises casting a second material onto the at least one microneedle mold to create at least one hollow microneedle.

Active manipulation of electromagnetic wave propagation in metamaterials

A microplasma generator includes first and second conductive resonators disposed on a first surface of a dielectric substrate. The first and second conductive resonators are arranged in line with one another with a gap defined between a first end of each resonator. A ground plane is disposed on a second surface of the dielectric substrate and a second end of each of the first and second resonators is coupled to the ground plane. A power input connector is coupled to the first resonator at a first predetermined distance from the second end chosen as a function of the impedance of the first conductive resonator. A microplasma generating array includes a number of resonators in a dielectric material substrate with one end of each resonator coupled to ground. A micro-plasma is generated at the non-grounded end of each resonator. The substrate includes a ground electrode and the microplasmas are generated between the non-grounded end of the resonator and the ground electrode. The coupling of each resonator to ground may be made through controlled switches in order to turn each resonator off or on and therefore control where and when a microplasma will be created in the array.
