A system, method, and computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon to enable an ego vehicle having an autonomous driving function to estimate and traverse a curved segment of highway utilizing radar sensor data. The radar sensor data may comprise stationary reflections and moving reflections. The ego vehicle may utilize other data, such as global positioning system data, for the estimation and traversal. The estimation of the curvature may be refined based upon a lookup table or a deep neural network.

Adaptive cruise control systems and methods of providing overtake acceleration aid in host vehicles. In one embodiment, the adaptive cruise control system includes an ultrasonic sensor, a radar sensor, a camera, and an electronic controller. The ultrasonic sensor, the radar sensor, and the camera are configured to sense within fields-of-view of a neighboring lane. Responsive to receiving an input indicating an overtake request, the electronic controller is configured determine when an object is located in the neighboring lane based in part on first data received from the ultrasonic sensor. The electronic controller is also configured to determine a velocity of the object when the object is located within the field-of-view of the radar sensor or the camera. The electronic controller is further configured to determine an overtake acceleration boost based in part on the velocity of the object and apply the overtake acceleration boost to the host vehicle.

Methods and systems of braking a vehicle. One method includes determining, with a first electronic processor, whether the vehicle is in a collision state or a non-collision state. The method also includes determining, with the first electronic processor, an amount of deceleration needed to avoid a collision with a first object. The method also includes determining, with a second electronic processor, whether an electronic parking brake has been activated. Responsive to determining that the electronic parking brake is activated and the vehicle is in the collision state, the method also includes controlling, with the second electronic processor, the electronic parking brake to provide an amount of deceleration of the vehicle based on the amount of deceleration needed to avoid a collision with a first object and a predetermined maximum amount of deceleration of the electronic parking brake.

Methods and systems for braking a vehicle utilizing an electronic parking brake to avoid a collision

Methods and systems for controlling a host vehicle to mitigate rear-end collisions. One method includes automatically maintaining the host vehicle at least a predetermined following distance from a front vehicle traveling ahead of the host vehicle. The method also includes detecting a rear vehicle traveling behind the host vehicle and determining when the rear vehicle poses a rear-end collision risk with the host vehicle. In addition, the method includes automatically, by a controller, increasing a speed of the host vehicle when the rear vehicle poses a rear-end collision risk with the host vehicle, and automatically reducing the predetermined following distance to decrease a distance between the host vehicle and the front vehicle and increase a distance between the host vehicle and the rear vehicle when the rear vehicle poses a rear-end collision risk with the host vehicle.
