The disclosed embodiments provide a system that operates switched-mode power supplies, such as flyback converters. The power supplies may comprise isolated or non-isolated power converters. During operation, the system senses an on-time of a primary switch in the power converter. Upon detecting that the on-time does not exceed an on-time threshold within a first pre-specified period that spans one or more switching cycles, the system extends the on-time during a subsequent switching cycle to at least meet the on-time threshold. The system may then measure the voltage on one or more reference windings of the power converter during the on-time of the subsequent switching cycle, wherein the reference winding may comprise, e.g., an auxiliary winding of the primary winding of the power converter or a secondary winding of the power converter (e.g., in the case of isolated power converters utilizing a transformer).

Measuring input voltages from reference windings of power converters with limited on-time

This relates to a rectifier with indicator switch circuit that may be used in a power conversion system. The rectifier with indicator switch circuit may be configured to rectify an ac line voltage and output an indicator signal that is representative of a fault condition in the ac line voltage. The rectifier with indicator switch circuit may include a storage capacitor configured to be charged by the ac line voltage during a first half-cycle of the ac line voltage and a detection capacitor configured to be charged by the storage capacitor during a second half-cycle of the ac line voltage. A switch coupled to the detection capacitor may be configured to generate the indicator signal based on a voltage across the detection capacitor. The indicator signal may be provided to a controller to disable operation of the power conversion system in response to the detection of a fault condition.

A computer-implemented method for the design of a power supply is disclosed. Multiple lists of power supply design variables are provided. The method includes simulating a first power supply design in response to power supply design variables selected from these multiple lists of variables. The method then calculates a score of the first power supply design and determines whether the score is better than the score of any power supply design included in a set of power supply designs. If so, the method replaces a power supply design having a worst score from the set of power supply designs with the first power supply design.

Method and apparatus for design of a power supply

A method and system for feedback circuit design are disclosed. In one aspect, a method of feedback circuit design includes simulating a reference circuit design having a feedback stage at a target crossover frequency, determining an initial phase margin at the target crossover frequency, and adding an impedance network to the feedback stage if the initial phase margin is less than a threshold phase margin. The design of the impedance network is determined such that the initial phase margin is increased.

Various techniques directed to the design and construction of transformers are disclosed. In one aspect, a computer system according to embodiments of the present invention includes instructions stored on a storage media which when executed by a processor performs the operations of loading parameters of a transformer included in a power supply design, calculating primary winding parameters of the transformer in response to the loaded parameters of the transformer, calculating secondary winding parameters of the transformer in response to the loaded parameters of the transformer, and generating a list of transformer construction materials. Shield winding parameters of the transformer may be calculated in response to the loaded parameters of the transformer. The calculation of secondary winding parameters may include allocating pins of a secondary winding of the transformer.
