An electromechanical brake system may include an electromechanical actuator with a servo motor. A current control is electronically coupled to the servo motor. A resolver is configured to detect an angular velocity and an angular position of the servo motor. A converter may be configured to convert the angular velocity into a linear velocity and the angular position into a linear position. An intelligent observer may also be configured to estimate a load force of the electromechanical actuator based on the linear position and the linear velocity.

Systems and methods for clamping force estimation in electromechanical brake systems

A controller for an electromechanical brake actuator (EBA) is provided. EBA has a motor driven in response to a motor drive signal generated by controller. Controller includes a velocity limiter and a current limiter. Velocity limiter limits a velocity command in response to a measured braking force signal output. Limited velocity command has a positive velocity limit boundary defined between a positive maximum velocity limit setpoint and a positive minimum velocity limit setpoint and a negative velocity limit boundary defined between a negative maximum velocity limit setpoint and a negative minimum velocity limit setpoint. Current limiter limits a current command in response to the measured braking force signal output. Limited current command has a positive current limit boundary defined between a positive maximum current limit setpoint and a positive minimum current limit setpoint and a negative current boundary defined between a negative maximum current limit setpoint and a negative minimum current limit setpoint.

A motor controller a pulse-width modulation (PWM) circuit, a power limit circuit, and an inverter. The PWM circuit is configured to output initial count outputs based on a current command. The power limit circuit includes a peak current detector, a divider, and a dynamic limiter. The power limit circuit is configured to provide updated count outputs based on the initial count outputs, a sensed current, and a power threshold. The inverter is controlled by the updated count outputs and configured to provide output power to a motor. The sensed current is sensed from the output power to the motor.

The controller is also configured to determine an estimate of the force applied to the outer disc based on the adjusted current.
