A method and apparatus for metering liquid fuel for delivery to an engine including delivering during each cycle a predetermined quantity of liquid fuel into a control chamber (71) charged with compressed gas, and thereafter, adjusting the quantity of fuel in the control chamber (71) in accordance with the engine load and/or speed to the required quantity per cycle, and discharging the adjusted quantity of fuel from the control chamber to an injection chamber (70) charged with compressed air for delivery to the engine combustion chamber. Conveniently, as the quantity of fuel is maintained in said control chamber (71) under pressure, the adjustment of the quantity of fuel is effected by opening a bleed valve 73 for a time period determined by the quantity of fuel required to be retained for delivery to the engine.

An oil reservoir for the supply of oil to an internal combustion engine, the reservoir 50 having an upwardly open filler passage 53 to receive a neck portion 64 of an oil container 64. The reservoir filler passage 53 being closed by a wall 54 spaced inwardly from the open end thereof and an opening 56 is provided in said filler passage wall 54 located to inhibit direct communication between the filler passage 53 and the interior of the reservoir 50. The filler passage 53 is adapted to sealably engage the container neck 65 upon the container neck 65 being inserted into the filler passage 53 a pre-determined extent, and to puncture a closure wall 70 of the container neck 65 after said sealed engagement is established to permit oil to flow from the container 64 through said opening 56 in the filler passage wall 54 into the reservoir 50.

Method and apparatus for metering oil for a two stroke cycle internal

A fuel and air assembly is provided for furnishing an air and fuel mixture under pressure to a cylinder of an ignition fired internal combustion engine which utilized a solenoid-actuated valve timed to admit the mixture to the cylinder. A standard fuel injector is interfaced with one end of a mixing insert which is connected at the other end to an air passage of a fuel rail. At one side of the insert is an outlet passage leading to the solenoid actuated valve which has an outlet end shaped to enhance fuel distribution and combustion. The mixing insert contains an air filter and passages to conduct air to the common passage for air and fuel. The insert is captured in the fuel rail between a locating shoulder and the fuel injector for proper positioning relative to the timed valve. An adapter cap on the solenoid assembly joins the insert to the valve controlled passage to the cylinder.

A spark ignited four stroke cycle internal combustion engine having variable volume combustion chamber, ignition means to provide an ignition point in said combustion chamber, a valve controlled inlet port communicating the combustion chamber with an air induction passage through which air flows to the engine. The induction passage including a wall shaped to direct at least part of the air flowing along said wall portion when the port is open in a generally helical path about the port axis and when the port is open, the air flowing is directed into the combustion chamber to establish therein a generally helical air flow. A fuel injector nozzle located to deliver fuel into the induction passage on the opposite side of the inlet port axis to said wall portion of the induction passage and on a trajectory through the port when open to form an ignitable fuel cloud at the ignition point.

An air supply system for a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine wherein a compresosr is arranged to deliver air to the fuel injection system by an air circuit including an air chamber, and a control valve to selectively communicate the air conduit with the air chamber, the said air control valve being arranged to isolate the air chamber from the air conduit when the pressure in the air conduit falling below a predetermined pressure, and to selectively open the valve during engine start up to provide air to the circuit from the chamber.
