A method and apparatus for automated field calibration of temperature sensors uses a series of readings including a reading of a known source, such as an LED, for use in calculating a factor that is compared to a reference for adjusting the sensor output signal. Calibration readings are taken more frequently after start up to compensate for sensor drift during storage, as opposed to less frequent readings during operation to compensate for slower sensor drift while operational.

Automated self calibration in optical detectors

A foreign-particle detection system for use with an optical instrument having a transmissive window with a first side and a second side includes a radiation source to emit a radiation signal, a diffusing reflector to diffusively spread the radiation signal emitted by the radiation source over the first side of the transmissive window, a radiation detector to detect, at the second side of the transmissive window, the diffusively spread radiation signal transmitted by the transmissive window, and to generate a detected radiation signal based on the detected diffusively spread radiation signal, and a computation module communicatively coupled to the radiation detector to detect a presence of foreign particles on at least one of the first side or the second side of the transmissive window based on at least the detected radiation signal.

Optical multiwavelength window contamination monitor for optical control sensors and systems

An air purge system for an optical sensor is disclosed. The air purge system includes a two sided lens having an optical sensor positioned on the first side and a fluid stream on the second side. The air purge system further includes, a plenum having an inlet, an array of parallel channels and an outlet, whereby the array of parallel channels, is disposed between the inlet and the outlet. The outlet is positioned on the second side of the housing and may be adapted to direct a fluid stream substantially parallel to the second side of the lens.

Air purge system for optical sensor

A contamination detection apparatus is provided for measuring an amount of contamination on an optically transmitting element or pane. The optically transmitting element is capable of transmitting electromagnetic radiation. The contamination detection apparatus includes a contamination detection (CD) radiation source for providing a source intensity of radiation. The source intensity or radiation passes through the optically transmitting element at least one time. A reference detector is also provided for detecting the source intensity of radiation, and the reference detector has a reference output level that is representative of the source intensity.

Window contamination detector

A light detector is disclosed for measuring the temperature of an object. The light detector includes a lens assembly for accepting light emitted from the object, an aperture, and a mirror for reflecting the infrared energy of the object into a fiber optic cable. The fiber optic cable is connected to a depolarizing element to which pressure is externally applied. The depolarization element relays the infrared energy into a detection portion and a signal processing portion for calculating temperature. Before the infrared light enters the fiber optic cable, a chopper, controlled by a driving circuit, chops the infrared energy reflected by the mirror.

Non-contacting infrared temperature thermometer detector apparatus

A solid state laser visible light source (26) passes light through a scanning mechanism (22) otherwise used to convey radiation from a target (12) to a detector (28) of a scanning radiation sensor (10) to mark with light a line (16) which is continuous when the sensor (10) is operating in a continuous mode, but when the sensor is operated in a spot mode in which a plurality of spots along a scan line are to be individually measured, a control (30) causes the light source to turn on and off at the correct times in the scan cycle to cause the light source (26) to mark the plural spots on the scan line (16). A CCD camera (40) with an automatic gain control circuit (46) is used in conjunction with a band pass light filter (36) to substantially enhance viewability of the image of the light markings (16) on the target (12) on a display (44).

Scanning infrared temperature sensor with sighting apparatus

An infrared thermometer (10) with a fixed aperture (99), focusable remote pickup head (12) conveys infrared light (16) from a target (14) to a photosensor (52) of a defocused sensor head (20). The remote pickup head (12) has a reimaging lens (84) and means for selectively adjusting the focus of the lens (84) relative to the target (14) after the pickup head has been fixedly mounted. The aperture setting is kept fixed during the focus adjustment to eliminate the need to recalibrate after the focus adjustment. The defocused sensor head (20) has a defocused relay lens (50) which is selectively out of focus to convey a slightly blurred, out of focus image of the output end of the fiber optic cable (18) to the photosensor (52) to reduce noise, average the light signal and reduce calibration difficulties due to high intensity spots in the image field and to make the unit less susceptible to misfocusing. Precision is further enhanced by provision of a field stop member (86) with a narrow slot, for instance, for passing light only to selected parts of the input end of the fiber optic cable (18) which makes up the optical field.
