A fluid reservoir for a fluid ejection head structure and a method for priming a fluid ejection head for a fluid dispensing device. The fluid reservoir includes an enclosed fluid cavity therein configured for containing fluid, a fluid outlet in fluid flow communication with the enclosed fluid cavity, and a flow inducing pump attached to the fluid reservoir opposite the fluid outlet.

Fluid reservoir with self-priming capabililty

A digital dispense system and methods for preparing samples for analysis. The digital dispense system includes a fluid droplet ejection system housed in a housing unit. The fluid droplet ejection system contains a fluid droplet ejection head and fluid cartridge containing one or more fluids to be dispensed. A cartridge translation mechanism is provided for moving the fluid droplet ejection head and fluid cartridge back and forth over a sample holder in an x direction. A sample tray translation mechanism moves a sample tray back and forth beneath the fluid droplet ejection head and fluid cartridge in a y direction orthogonal to the x direction.

Digital dispense system

A removable maintenance fluid holder for a digital dispense system, a digital dispense system containing the removable maintenance fluid holder, and a method of maintaining a fluid droplet dispense cartridge. The removable maintenance fluid holder includes a housing having a handle end and a fluid receptacle end distal from the handle end. The fluid receptable end includes a fluid receptacle for holding fluid dispensed from a fluid droplet ejection head of a fluid droplet cartridge in the digital dispense system. The removable maintenance fluid holder is configured to be inserted and removed from the digital dispense system on a periodic basis.

Removable maintenance fluid holder

A pipette-fillable fluid reservoir body. The fluid reservoir body includes two or more discrete fluid chambers therein. At least one of the fluid chambers contains a pressure compensation device and at least another one of the fluid chambers is devoid of a pressure compensation device. Each of the fluid chambers is in fluid flow communication with a fluid supply via, and each of the fluid chambers have sidewalls and a bottom wall attached to the side walls, wherein the bottom wall slopes toward the fluid supply via. The fluid reservoir body also includes an ejection head support face in fluid flow communication with the fluid chambers for attachment of a fluid ejection device to the ejection head support face for ejecting fluid from the fluid chambers.

Pipette-fillable cartridge

A digital dispense system for preparing and analyzing a plurality of samples. The system includes two or more fluid droplet ejection devices. Each fluid droplet ejection device contains a fluid droplet ejection cartridge containing at least one fluid to be dispensed. The fluid droplet ejection cartridge is attached to a translation mechanism for moving the fluid droplet ejection cartridge back and forth over a sample holder in an x direction. A sample tray translation mechanism is provided for moving a sample tray along a production path in a y direction orthogonal to the x direction through the two or more fluid droplet ejection devices.

An apparatus for a fluidic ejection device and a fluidic ejection device containing the apparatus. The apparatus includes a pivot member having at least a first position and a second position, a shaft attached on a first end thereof to the pivot member and on a second end distal from the first end to a capping structure, wherein pivot of the pivot member pivots the capping structure from a first capped position to a second uncapped position adjacent an ejection head of the fluidic ejection device.

Maintenance apparatus for vaporizing device

A maintenance apparatus for a fluid ejection and vaporization device and a fluid ejection and vaporization device containing the maintenance apparatus. The maintenance apparatus includes a movable wiper blade, the wiper blade being attached to an arm on one end of the arm, wherein a distal end of the arm is attached to an air operated mechanism for moving the arm and for causing a sweeping movement of the wiper blade over an ejection head in the fluid ejection and vaporization device.

Maintenance apparatus and method for vaporizing device

A printhead assembly for an inkjet printer has a ink filter tower portion that contains filtered ink and includes multiple, substantially parallel extending elements. Settling of ink in an ink filter tower could clog the printhead nozzles and lessen the print quality. Therefore, in order to prevent the settling of the ink in the ink filter tower of the present design, a free-floating weighted slider is installed within the ink filter tower. The weighted slider has a top bridging member and downward-pointing shafts that are movable within trenches formed between the extending elements. During a reciprocating motion of the printhead assembly, the slider moves in a direction opposite to the direction of the printhead assembly and thereby agitates the ink within the tower. In addition to sliding from side to side of the printhead assembly, the slider may also be designed to pivot about an upper axis as it moves to further agitate the ink.

A fluid ejection device is disclosed that includes a body defining an interior bore, a fluid reservoir, and a fluid ejection chip. The fluid reservoir includes a wall and one or more fluid control surfaces disposed along an interior surface of the wall. The fluid reservoir defines an interior passage in fluid communication with the interior bore of the body. The fluid ejection chip is disposed on the body and comprises one or more fluid ejection actuators. The fluid ejection chip has one or more interior fluid paths in fluid communication with the interior bore of the body so that the fluid ejection chip ejects the fluid upon activation of the one or more fluid ejection actuators. The interior passage of the fluid reservoir, the interior bore of the body, and the one or more interior fluid paths are axially aligned such that the fluid is gravity fed to the fluid ejection chip upon entry into the interior passage of the fluid reservoir. The one or more fluid control surfaces are disposed along the interior passage of the fluid reservoir so that the fluid adheres to the one or more fluid control surfaces.

Fluid ejection device for depositing a discrete quantity of fluid onto a surface

A fluid ejection device includes a body defining an interior bore, a fluid reservoir, and a fluid ejection chip. The fluid reservoir defines an interior passage that receives a fluid, the interior passage in fluid communication with the interior bore of the body. The fluid ejection chip is coupled with the body and includes one or more fluid ejection actuators. The fluid ejection chip has one or more interior fluid paths in fluid communication with the interior bore of the body so that the fluid ejection chip ejects the fluid upon activation of the one or more fluid ejection actuators. The interior passage of the fluid reservoir and the one or more interior fluid paths are substantially devoid of obstructions such that the fluid is gravity fed to the fluid ejection chip upon entry into the interior passage of the fluid reservoir.

A fluid ejection system is disclosed, and comprises a fluid ejection device and an adapter. The fluid ejection device comprises a body defining an interior bore, a fluid reservoir, and a fluid ejection chip. The fluid reservoir defines an interior passage that receives a fluid and is in fluid communication with the interior bore of the body. The fluid ejection chip is coupled with the body and comprises one or more fluid ejection actuators. The fluid ejection chip has one or more interior fluid paths in fluid communication with the interior bore of the body so that the fluid ejection chip ejects the fluid upon activation of the one or more fluid ejection actuators. The adapter is coupled with the fluid reservoir and defines an interior passage in fluid communication with the interior passage of the fluid reservoir. The adapter is configured to interengage a fluid storage device.

Fluid ejection device

Methods for ejecting fluids having a viscosity ranging from about 20 mPa-sec to about 100 mPa-sec at 22&#xb0; C. from a micro-fluid ejection head. The methods include the steps of applying a heat signal to the ejection head for a first period of time to heat the ejection head to a first temperature that is about 20&#xb0; C. above a steady state fluid ejection temperature for continuous or intermittent fluid ejection from the ejection head; and subsequently, applying a firing signal to ejection heaters on the ejection head during which fluid ejection from the ejection head occurs.
