In one embodiment, a method for regulating energy delivered to a load includes: determining a quantity of energy that has been delivered to the load during a time interval; comparing the quantity of energy delivered with a threshold value; and delaying delivery of additional energy to the load until the time interval has expired if a magnitude of a difference between the threshold value and a sum of the quantity of energy and the additional energy exceeds a predetermined value.

A fluid ejection apparatus includes an electronic controller. The electronic controller is configured to determine a resistance associated with a partially blown fuse in a programmable memory circuit and to determine an identifier based on the resistance.

A printer according to the present techniques includes a print head having at least one nozzle for ejecting an ink drop and a sensing element for detecting the ink drop. The print head includes a charge shield for imparting an electrical charge into the ink drop during ejection from the nozzle and for shielding electrical noise generated in the print head.

A method, includes illuminating a first portion of a colored region with first light from a gas discharge tube and generating a first output using a diffuse reflection of the first light from the first portion. The method further includes illuminating a second portion of the colored region with second light from a first solid state lamp and generating a second output using a diffuse reflection of the second light from the second portion. Additionally, the method includes illuminating a third portion of the colored region with third light from a second solid state lamp and generating a third output using a diffuse reflection of the third light from the third portion.

Color measurement device and color measurement method

A compact optical sensing system is used in hardcopy devices for scanning and/or printing images, for instance, using inkjet printing technology in desktop printing or in photographic printers appearing in grocery and variety stores. Several light emitting diodes ('LEDs') illuminate a sheet of print media, and one or more photodiodes receive light reflected from the sheet. The photodiode generates signals in response to the light received, and the hardcopy device uses these signals to adjust printing parameters for optimal print quality. Using a chip-on-board process, the bare silicon die for each component is wire bonded directly to a printed circuit board assembly, allowing at least four LEDs (blue, green, red and soft-orange) to be grouped closely together in a space smaller than that occupied by a factory-made, single-packaged LED. A calibrating system uses a white target covered for cleanliness by a windowed door which is opened/closed by a printhead carriage.

A sensor configuration for use in detecting ink droplets ejected from an ink drop generator is provided. The sensor configuration includes a sensing element configured to receive a biasing voltage which creates an electric field from the sensing element to the ink drop generator. The sensor configuration also includes a sensing amplifier coupled to the sensing element, whereby the sensing element in imparted with an electrical stimulus when at least one ink droplet is ejected in the presence of the electric field, and thereafter passes in close proximity to the sensing element without substantially contacting the sensing element. Sensor configurations with a separate electrically biasing element which may or may not contact the ink droplets are also provided. Additionally, a printing mechanism having such sensor configurations and a method of making ink drop detection measurements are also provided.

Methods and systems for detecting ink droplets ejected by a printer, and for determining if the trajectory of an ink droplet deviates from a desired trajectory. In one embodiment, the ink droplet trajectory detector has multiple electrically conductive, electrically isolated sensors. Each of said sensors is configured to generate an electrical signal when an ink droplet passes in proximity thereof, without requiring the ink droplet to physically engage any portion of said sensors. The ink droplet trajectory detector also has at least one structure orienting said sensors relative to one another.
