A method for comparing a first print image having a first set of minutiae to a second print image having a second set of minutiae, wherein at least a second subset of minutiae from the second set is mated to a first subset of minutiae from the first set, the method that includes the steps of: selecting () a first pair of minutiae from the first subset and a second pair of corresponding mated minutiae from the second subset; generating () a first segment based on the first pair of minutiae and a second segment based on the second pair of minutiae; generating () a first cross-section profile based on the first segment and a second cross-section profile based on the second segment; and computing () at least one similarity measure that is indicative of the similarity between the first cross-section profile and the second cross-section profile.

Gray scale matcher

A self-organizing network and method of operation includes a plurality of kindred nodes and, in some applications, a hub node communicating data packets from source nodes to destination nodes remote from the source nodes. Each data packet includes information (e.g. priority, number of hops, etc.) and packet handling commands. A source node receives data packets with the information and packet handling commands and adjusts its operation (e.g. transmitting power, frequency, bandwidth, etc.) in a way that allows the network to be self-organizing, self-configuring, and self-healing so that data packets are retransmitted from source nodes to destination nodes with a minimum of hops and delay.

Self-organizing network with decision engine and method

A digitized topology data compression and decompression method provides the digitized topology data of a collection of segments connected to each other via nodes. The method forms at least one composite line representing a chain of connected segments, which reduces an overall number of lines needed to represent the collection of segments and where each composite line has two end points at known coordinates, resulting in compression of the topology data. The method further represents each composite line by its respective end point coordinates. Next, the method enrolls each composite line into one of at least two sets of composite lines for minimizing a number of intersections between each of the composite lines within each of the sets of composite lines. Finally, the method reconstructs the nodes at a decompression time by calculating coordinates of intersecting composite lines belonging to different sets of composite lines.

Methods for data compression and decompression using digitized topology

A direction of arrival (DOA)-aided digital beamforming (DBF) subsystem (300 FIG. 3) is provided for mitigating interference and increasing the frequency reuse factor in communication systems. The DOA-aided DBF subsystem is used to accurately position beams and nulls in at least one antenna beam pattern. By accurately directing beams at desired locations and nulls at undesired locations, the DOA-aided DBF subsystem provides a more efficient processing of antenna beam patterns in communication systems. The DOA-aided DBF subsystem is used in geostationary satellites, non-geostationary satellites, and terrestrial communication devices. The DOA-aided DBF subsystem uses a unique algorithm to determine DOA information that allows more efficient beam management and allows more subscribers to be served, while saving spectrum and power.

Method and apparatus for robust estimation of directions of arrival for

An enhanced digital beamformer (EDBF) (210, FIG. 2) is provided for use in a transceiver subsystem (200, FIG. 2) for mitigating interference and increasing the frequency reuse factor in communication systems. The EDBF is used to produce wide nulls (520, FIG. 5) in at least one steerable antenna beam pattern. By directing wide nulls at undesired signals, the EDBF provides a more efficient processing of antenna beam patterns in communication systems. The EDBF is used in geostationary satellites, non-geostationary satellites, and terrestrial communication devices. The EDBF combines a unique algorithm, a special processor, and an array antenna to significantly improve the capacity of current and future communication systems, while remaining compatible with existing modulation techniques.

Method and apparatus for producing wide null antenna patterns

The programmable interface gives a Block Floating Point processor the capability of performing various real-time signal algorithms on collected radar data in an external batch memory. Normally, Block Floating Point processors are not capable of accommodating data having varying exponent scales such as the data received from a batch memory in a radar system. The programmable interface solves the exponential normalization process using two data paths, an instruction processor, a microcode processor, a pre-shift control and an address generator. Data flow instructions are passed from the instruction processor to the microcode processor which executes the particular instruction's timing sequence. The first data path passes data from the batch memory to the array processor and contains a pre-shifter to normalize the batch memory-stored data. The second data path passes the processed data from the processor to the batch memory. The pre-shifter portion of the first data path is controlled by a pre-shifter control section in the invention, which generates a 4-bit code used to command the pre-shifter. Finally, an address generator creates a sequence of fetch and store addresses for data travelling between the batch memory and the array processor.

Programmable realtime interface between a Block Floating Point processor

An E-scan, space fed antenna is realized using non-active radiation and excitation arrays and a reduced number of phase and amplitude shifters. The linear radiation array is coupled to the concave excitation array by a parallel plate lens. An optimization technique allows the choice of a subset of the excitation array and the calculation of the optimum complex weight for each activated element of the excitation array. An antenna design allowing 80.degree. of scan and providing a maximum sidelobe level of better than -40 dB is disclosed which requires only 16 high resolution digital phase shifters and amplitude settings.

Electronically scanned space fed antenna system and method of operation

Apparatus for generating an output digital signal that approximates the value of a predetermined mathematical function lying in the X-Y plane at a point defined by an input digital signal. The mathematical function is approximated by a plurality of linear least-mean-square line segments each of which includes a central point, R, and a slope, S, with the desired point being defined by the equation F(X) approximates R+S.DELTA.X, where .DELTA.X is the X distance between the central point R and the desired point. R, S and .DELTA.X are precalculated and stored in PROM lookup tables and combined as stated in the above equation.

Function generator

An array of signals is adapted and dithered by use of a weight signal, a gradient signal with a carrier at a first frequency and an orthogonal sequence signal with a carrier at a second frequency, the dithered signals are then operated on to extract an output signal, a gradient signal, and a weight signal, which gradient and weight signals along with a generated orthogonal sequence signal, are then fed back for use in the dithering process. The carriers at different frequencies provide separability of predetermined components during the operation.

Adaptive signal processing apparatus

The processing unit includes at least one complex multiplier having hour multiplying circuits for multiplying the real and imaginary components of two complex vectors and combining the products to produce a complex output vector. Representing the input complex vectors by (A+jB) and (C+jD) the output complex vector becomes (AC-BD)+j(BC+AD). The combining circuits can be switched so that one of the input complex vectors is conjugated and the output complex vector becomes (AC+BD)+j(BC-AD). Thus, the present processing unit can provide the dot product of two complex vectors or the like.
